Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Just her 2nd WTA SF on clay iirc, losing to Vesnina in 3 at Budapest 2012 when it was a big mm pre RG.

Amazing result. She played so well on the clay, it wasn't pretty at times, but her ventures to the net were crazy good and her FH, when Krunic actually hit to it (Aleks' ability to redirect to the BH basically every shot was an immense source of frustration for me and Marina, I'm sure ) was huge.

Nearly choked the end, was clearly nervous, even though Aleks was gifting it to her with all sorts of errors, but Marina did do well to save 4/5 gps, one with a BH DTL winner

Her roar at the end She is clearly really happy about the result, will help her ranking, top 150 at least and counting.

Marina has done so well this week, I would have been happy with qualifying but she's gone above and beyond my expectations. Will be staying up to watch her SF but I don't expect much, Kiki is on a hot streak (though apparently she was quite messy against Poots...). ould be insane if she could reach her 5th WTA final and first not on indoor hard/carpet

Mr.Sparkle Go Marina!!! Semifinal in Rabat!

Spencer. W/O in doubles. Maybe it was because of Dani... no idea. After a comfortable win over Mitu I wouldn't think it'd be her to pull out.

Oh well. 4 wins in Africa. Clayrina on the prowl

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

The thread is so dead I update the FB page I made though fairly often.

Great win. Honestly thought she was done against Garcia Perez down a set and a break but she fought well and now she's in the 2nd round with a winnable match against SSE or Tsurenko for a QF.

Needs the points badly so these four wins are great. She wants to have a top 200 ranking after the grass because that's the time she'll be able to point grab with nothing to defend, and to point grab successfully she needs a good ranking to make WTA Q. She needs a good clay season so she can play grass Wta Q and a good grass season to remain top 200.

Doubles with Hantuchova later in the day, should be great! Tough first up against the Rodi sisters though.

Mr.Sparkle Go Marina! Straight set win in Rabat! I think me posting in here is good luck!

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Marina is doing well in Rabat qualifying at the moment. Won both her matches in straight sets, and her last match included a bagel against Piter Bread.

Her next match is against Garcia Perez, who is only ranked 282. I hope she will qualify!

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Marina beat Yulia 7-6(2) 7-6(3) playing some amazing consistent tennis Was very clutch as well.

Lost to Dulgheru 6-7(4) 3-6 in the next round. Was clearly a bit tired and didn't play as well, but Alex played her best match in ages, moved and served extremely well and her groundstrokes were full of depth.

Marina then won her doubles QF 6-4 4-6 10-7 against Goerges/Srebotnik with Silvia coming up with an amazing FH pass at 8-6 in the MTB

Now Marina is playing her doubles semi and after leading the first set *4-3, they lost it 4-6. They missed a lot of chances in the second and found themselves at *1-4 0-30 but clawed their way back to 4-4*. Their opponents, Kovinic/Strycova held to love, and forced Marina to serve to stay in the tournament at 4-6 *4-5.

Marina lost two second serves but won a first serve (no stream unfortunately) Then rain interrupted play so they will begin again at 4-6 *4-5 15-30

First point will be crucial. 30-30 is doable but 15-40 under that kind of pressure is not.

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Marina has won her first match in Auckland 6-2 7-6 (1) partnering with Soler-Espinosa to defeat Jones/Cheng.

A nice bit of revenge of Jones, but what was really great was that the knee looked fine, no strapping, no grimacing, didn't make any indication of pain or trouble from it She was the best player on court, served well, hit some great volleys and FH's.

I reckon she has a good shot against Putintseva tomorrow night. It will be crowd capacity and she'll be a bit nervous, but she rode the support today well, so I hope she can do the same tomorrow night.

Tuesday's schedule is easily the best I've ever seen for Auckland, it looks like a strong Premier schedule for most part.

Schiavone vs Paszek
Kovinic vs Wozniacki
V. Williams vs Kasaktina
Ivanovic vs Broady
Erakovic vs Putintseva

Marina probably won't play until 8.30pm-ish. Doubles will likely be Wednesday against #2 seeds Goerges/Srebotnik, which is winnable. Silvia isn't the greatest partner though, very average at the net and baseline, good but not great. Unless Goerges is off or Marina is excellent, they'll probably lose.

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

She's just tweeting away, hitting the gym. I think her knee is close to being fine again. She definitely plans to play Auckland anyway.

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Expected tbh Hopefully the knee isn't injured that badly, and she can get training for next year when she's ready.

If I was her I wouldn't bother popping over to Europe to play the very last tournaments of the year, I doubt she'll even be fit by then. She should just call it quits and get ready for next year

Unfortunately this means she'll definitely need a WC for Auckland. Plus she'll be playing Q at AO unless she vultures some Asian 125K at the back end of the season, which I doubt. Plus her singles and doubles ranking will sink like a stone early into the season

However I'm glad she isn't thinking of retiring, and it will be good for her to get some Uni work done while she's healing

Also, I'll be able to go and see her play Q at AO and there won't be as many NZ spectators so she won't be as nervous

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

New Zealand tennis No.1 Marina Erakovic is unlikely to play again this year but she is ruling out any thoughts of retirement.

Erakovic aggravated a knee injury which forced her to retire during her first-round match at the US Open last week, when she was a set down against Romanian second seed Simona Halep.

The 27-year-old will fall out of the top 100 rankings for the first time in four years and is frustrated her right knee is causing more problems after believing eight weeks of rest and treatment had restored her.

Another scan in Auckland when she returns home will dictate her short-term future but she is resigned to missing a number of tournaments in Asia which had filled most of her remaining schedule in 2015.

"It's been a bit of a tough year, there were quite a few issues going on," she said. "It's frustrating. I thought I was playing well for quite a bit but I just wasn't able to put it out here. "I'm not going to get too down about it because I'm quite a positive person."

Erakovic's best result of 2015 was a semi-final appearance at the WTA event in Pattaya, Thailand in February.
She lacked the impact in doubles she has enjoyed in recent years but despite her struggles, has no thought of easing back on an 11-year professional career which peaked at 39th in the rankings 2012.

"I feel like I'm playing plenty of good tennis and maybe if I wasn't I'd think about things differently."

She admits some extra time at home will help her commit time to business studies at Massey University.

If fit, Erakovic is likely to need a wildcard to compete at the ASB Classic in Auckland in January and may need to go through qualifying to reach the main draw of the Australian Open.

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

2-6 0-3 ret. to Halep

Movement was hampered, looks like the same knee injury that kept her away since Wimbledon. Pretty disgusting to see people making Diatchenko slurs in the result thread, when she played the week before and won against Hradecka, and was playing some decent tennis at times in the first.

Had gps at *2-4 but wild FH's came into play. BH was horrific, FH was bad, came into the net but didn't get down low enough for the volleys. One positive was serve, 1st serve kept her in the match, gave her two games, and no double faults, good 2nd serves.

Doubles with Watson, no mixed. She'll probably WD? MD at Tashkent in a few weeks. Hope this wasn't season ending.

All in all, this sums up a horror year for Marina with bad form throughout the year, injuries and nerves ruining her few good chances (eg. MP against Hantuchova in Pattaya SF, 4-1 3rd set Madrid R1). Marina will drop out of top 100 after USO.

Hopefully she can recover quickly and get a few wins in the Asian and indoors swing to keep her ranking at around #100. Then regroup and train over the off season. WC should be needed for the ASB classic.

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Lost to Savchuk 5-7 in the third, but she has qualified and made it to R2 so not bad

Next tourney USO! She is MD for singles, and doubles with Heather Unfortuantely her rankings are slipping away VERY quickly

R2 singles points to defend, R2 in Doubles as well I think.
