Molik Gets Wildcard

Molik to play in Tasmania
Thursday, 19 December, 2002

HOBART, Dec 18 - One of Australia's most talented tennis players, Alicia Molik, has been awarded a wildcard entry into the singles maindraw of the Moorilla International, Tournament Director, Grant Cosgriff, announced today.

Currently ranked 94 in the world, Molik is hoping the valuable match practice she will gain from competing in the Moorilla International will act as a solid preparation for her Australian Open campaign.

"I haven't played in Hobart for three years so I'm really looking forward to returning to the Domain Tennis Centre to try and claim my first WTA Tour title and at the same time improve my ranking," Molik said.

"I have been working extremely hard on my preparation for the Australian Summer Circuit and I'm hopeful of achieving some of my best results to date."

Molik will head to Hobart following her quest to claim Australia's second Hyundai Hopman Cup, a battle the Fed Cup stalwart will contest alongside World No.1 Lleyton Hewitt.

Tournament Director, Grant Cosgriff, is thrilled Molik has accepted a wildcard to play in Tasmania and believes it's a great opportunity for spectators to support home grown talent.

"The Moorilla International offers tennis fans the chance to witness some of the best players in the world and it's always great to have an Australian in the field that the crowd can really get behind and support," Cosgriff said.

"Alicia is the second-highest ranked Australian woman playing on the world Tour and we are delighted she is heading to Hobart to compete."

Im glad she is playing here instead of Sydney, where she normally plays. She has a better shot at winning a few rounds here. I think Wheeler will probably get the other WC, and Pratt and Evie for Sydney.
