Oh, glad to hear that there's nothing wrong with you. I thought you must have some terrible fatal illness, from the way you were talking.

And best wishes to you too!

Thanks for asking 'Double B',but I'm OK at the present time;it just seemed better to wish the Marionettes a nice Christmas NOW since it'll be several weeks before our favorite lovely French princess starts swinging away again.

You probably have an expression in Britain that's similar to one we have in Las Americas.Loosely translated,we should not miss a chance to do a kind deed or share a warm word because we never know when the Reaper will forever deprive us of these opportunities.Within the last five-odd years I have outlasted a near-fatal brain tumor and also a violent auto collision which later prompted the docs' admission that they were shocked by my survival.

Given that this is the season which recognizes the One Who offers everlasting hope,I thought that I should extend my OWN hopes/well-wishes to the Marionettes.

BTW,one of your Ulster neighbors from across the Irish Sea is an English teacher at our school...he's a REALLY pleasant fellow. As someone who has had two seriously-near-death experiences, let me wish you folks a nice Christmas NOW just in case my third encounter, perhaps the final one, comes in the interim.I hope that your respective holiday activities prove to be consistently,NOT mercurially ,enjoyable;Feliz Navidad!

I've been to Taunton!

Well, actually no, not exactly... but I've stopped at Taunton Deane services many times on the way to Cornwall. Almost the same thing.

As for Bruce Goose's point. There is only one player in the game these days that has that level consistency. That player isnt in the womens game.
Well, these are somewhat subjective statements that we're offering here in the sense that you could ask,"Precisely how high must one's winning percentage be in order to be considered consistent?" I think most people would disagree with you in mentioning Henin's four losses in all of 2007 as a STRONG sign of consistency.I'm not demanding that Marion duplicate Henin's 2007 record or become a female Federer;however,it would certainly behoove her to be less mercurial as I mentioned earlier.Even if you look at Nos. 2 and 3(Kuzy and JJ),they didn't win a single Slam this year but they rarely got knocked out in the early rounds of tourneys by players who were seeded substantially lower--as happens to Marion a bit too often.I'm not sure how she'll approach this yet I definitely feel that she's capable of eliminating most of these sub-standard defeats, and I'll cheer her on(win or lose) as she strives to do this.

You could tell she was really trying hard as well, which must make it even worse to not get a single game. Henin obviously had something to prove in that match.

I wonder whether Marion will try very hard against Jankovic now. I probably won't be able to watch it until tomorrow (family doesn't share my enthusiasm for WTA).

Re: On the way to qualify for the YEC - Indoor season 2007 !

I am very happy for Marion that she managed to finish on high note with a win in YEC . What is good is that she has a very solid ranking as a top 10 player: 2226 pts and Elena who is just behind is at 1985.

I feel really sorry for Jelena though.

An interview of Marion here: http://www.eurosport.fr/tennis/wta-m...vid56295.shtml
She said that:
- she has a good memory of YEC after all finishing 3rd of her pool with no time to get prepared mentally to play.
- she felt really better on court yesteday as she had more time for her shots even though she admitted that Jelena was lowered by her respiratory problems.
- she won't play YEC next year if she is an alternate. But she said she will as she will be already qualified .
- for 2008, she aims at defending her final, winning titles because it's what missed her this year, staying in top 10, playing Fed Cup and Beijing Olympics. A very interesting & exciting new season for her .
- so, during this "holy end of season" , she knows that she has to do contrary to last years, she has targets to achieve during those two months and it will be all. She said that she won't make last years'overtraining errors, so that this time, she arrives fresh in Australia .

ALLEZ MARION !!!! We are proud of you, it was an amazing season!!!!!
Good luck in 2008 & enjoy the rest !!

She probably just wasnt match ready. Marion is Mercurial.
There's no questioning Marion's talent but the dilemma is found within your own accurate assessment:champions aren't mercurial. They go through difficult stretches sometimes but they're noted for their consistency and also for their ability to turn things around quickly.Marion needs to become a bit LESS mercurial if she's gonna move from Top 10 to Top 3...here's hoping that she finds that consistent delivery, and it's nice that she ended her year with a victory.
