Carlsbad 1st Round: Nicole Gibbs (5) def. Alla Kudryavtseva 6-3, 3-2 by Default

and report what's happened

As she gets more frustrated, she hit all her shots so hard where many landed far out. After she missed an easy put away, she hit a ball out of the court and got a code violation. During the change over after she lost 3 games in a row, she threw the racquet on the ground so hard and it jumped into the audience and almost hit the guy in front of me. After that, WTA supervisor came on court to calm her down but her emotion was just out of control. Then she stormed out of the court and the chair umpire announced that Nicole won the match.

Bonus: When I was walking towards my car, I saw her crying on the side of the parking lot.

Potapovushina The Important Princess of Tennis has had a good run in doubles with Nastyusha Pavlyuchenkova, they were seeded 12 and made the QFs, but just lost their QF match against the strong 4th seeded pair Dellacqua/Shvedova, 2-6 6-2 3-6

Re: Alla Kudryavtseva

Saw some of the second set live.

If Alla's brain were on par with her tennis skills, she would be Top 30. However, she loves to lose from a winning position! Lucky for her Vicky Duval is not yet there match-wise, so she was able to run away at the end.

GL to her getting the q-spot!

Re: Alla Kudryavtseva

Great job Alla

Rogers is VERY winnable, for sure If she weathers the storm on return, she should grab this

Re: Alla Kudryavtseva

Alla beat Vicky, 7-6(5) 4-6 6-0

She unsuccessfully served for the 1st set at *5-4, then was in a bad position at 0-4 in the TB but managed to grab it. Then she completely brainfarted at *4-2 in the 2nd set. But looks like she was mercilessly angry in the 3rd.

She will face Shelby Rogers for a spot in the MD. Winnable...

Re: Alla Kudryavtseva

If she gets past Glatch she is a good bet to qualify.

Re: Alla Kudryavtseva

USO q-draw:

(15)Alla Kudryavtseva v Alexa Glatch
Luksika Kumkhum v (wc)Victoria Duval
Shelby Rogers v Grace Min
Mandy Minella v (29)Stefanie Voegele

It's good that Alla had a good North American warm up season, as she needs the confidence to try to defend those points she racked up, getting to the second round of the USO as a qualifier last year.

Still, Alla is unpredictable when it comes to execution. First round she meets for juniors rival Alexa Glatch, who she hasn't faced in 10 years. (They are tied 1-all in juniors play.) Alexa also won her last tournament, so she is also riding on a lot of confidence.
