When you're nearly ranked 600 in the world ... there's a REASON you're ranked almost 600 in the world.

You can't win matches.

Wish her the best as a human being, but her weirdness persists.

She's Twilight Zone material.

After the initial horrible start to the third set there was numerous games Alex had game points and break points, but just wouldn't take one.

I was at work during this match and had my phone proped up on the table with the score on my phone constantly, and I was shocked that Alex didn't call her usual MTO to stop the run. She always does, it's still confusing to me why she didn't

Anyway. Alex is back playing next week, on the hard courts back in the states!
Yeah. I mean, anyone with a shred of sense would not deny that Sexay has always had a lot of talent. Innate talent. So do many players. Thousands of them.

But she's still tilting at windmills, for decades, in which other plans should have been made in a life that has a sensible trajectory.

This encounter with Erakovic was interesting, but it was another exemplary loss. And a bagel mastication, too.

Again. It's a case of tennis "bumming," like SoCal surfer bums. Just doing the fly-by-night thing.

Another dead-end match, dead-end trip to England ... when her ranking (sinking near 600) doesn't even begin to remotely deserve such weird forays and improbable campaigns.

A "tour" of UK qualifying draws, basically.

A fluke Slam result in 1999. No tournament wins. Hasn't been able to touch the Top 200 in a decade, despite playing *full* ITF schedules each year.

Bumming. (Not that there's anything wrong with that ... but 99% of self-respecting athletes would not do it ... FOR YEARS)

Losing tennis matches is the worst. Not even a recreational player would keep going out there if he/she stunk and rarely won.

Year after year Sexay loses. IMO, Sexy is not right in the head. Masochism deluxe.

I'm sure her American "hard court campaign" will produce glorious triumphs.

You can tell she was fully engaged.

Now you have to wonder how someone in her position looks at a match like this:

She gets very few chances these days to even PLAY a Top 200 player, and she finally gets one who is low on confidence, and she needs a win to even remotely justify her very dignity.

But doesn't get it.

Does she say: "I competed well for two sets and that's HUGELY encouraging!" ?

Or is her solid play in the first two sets completely neutralized by a third-set bagel flop that was likely the result of a fairly childish, "I don't even wanna play anymore" pout?

It does seem like she just chucked it. (And I believe someone's had a word with her about the formerly epidemic mid-match and late-match retirements.)

Disappointment after the second set is understandable, but it would have been worth it to fight this match out to the end.

She still might have won.

But nothing about this player has made sense, not since she first emerged. Not now.

Very disappointing loss

Should've broken in the 4th game of the second set

Cream cheese and gravlax in the 3rd.

Clearly deflated after putting up some solid fight in the first two sets.

She'll leave the UK with one qualifying win. This was a great opportunity.

Too bad.

She lost the first 10 points of the set :/.

Hope she can hold at 0-5 and avoid the bagel

Looks as if she was really gunning for it, too. Trying very hard to keep her nerve and momentum.

Re: Alex Stevenson's Chat Thread. (!!!)

She couldn't .

7-6, 5-7

Hopefully she can stay with Erakovic in the third and not get blown away.

Physical and mental fitness will, as usual, be determinative.

Sexay needs to wrap this up in 2.

Very nice to see her take a set against ANYONE in the Top 200, no matter how badly they've been playing.
