Re: Alex Stevenson's Chat Thread. (!!!)

Well I've been following this story for awhile and live in Sydney so took the chance to go check out the match live to see Alex play. Alex still has good power and a beautiful game, her strokes are beautifully produced. Movement is a little dicey as discussed and she just can't seem to stay in long rallys with these young girls. Mum Samantha was sitting right in front of me and encouraging Alex every time she was down our end. The first set was a feast of errors for Alex and went by quickly. The other girl just refused to miss, she was a decent player but nothing amazing. Alex was getting frustrated by her own constant errors, what she saw as some bad calls, and the slowness of the court which she yelled out was neutralising her power. The second set was pretty close and Alex'es level picked up, she had her chances but could never quite get ahead and finally lost the match on a double fault which may have been her first of the match. The second set could have gone either way though. After the match Alex commented to her mum that the other girl was a pusher and "going nowehere!" I'm not sure what that means for Alex though if she still can't win. She was also complaining to Samantha about the slowness of the court and how it hurts her game and if all the courts at the Australian tournament were this slow she would play in Brisbane but that's it, so sounds like they are planning to be here for the ITF run. Too many errors and obviously lacking in match play, struggles to hang in with the longer rallies with these young pups who can run all day and don't miss. Her serve seems to have lost a bit of pop and her shoulder was taped. I can only remember 1-2 aces and 1 double fault so serve seems to have found a balance of not missing but not being as fearsome either. I think she needed a lot more free points than she got. But yeah, when she hits a bunch of good shots in a row as she still can do, her game is very pretty to watch, beautiful strokes and good power and won most points when she came forward to the net. I just don't think she can compete though at the level she wants to. Seeing her reminded me of my own playing and I played high level state tennis, I always play better against better players, hard hitters but struggled against the worse players. I think Alex has the same struggles and that's why we see her play good close matches against higher ranked players at bigger tournaments but struggles otherwise. As long as that keeps happening though, how will she ever get out of the position she is in? I could see her doing better if she was ranked 200-300 and playing higher level tournaments and players but I don't see her being able to reach that level from where she is now with the struggles she still has. She was pretty disappointed with the loss, was pretty insulting to a player she just lost to, even shouted out on the court "what a pusher" about the other girl. Mum was watching and encouraging as always and keeping notes on every point. Let's see what the rest of the tour holds......

Alex was an error machine! Finally started to get going when she was down 6-1 4-2. But it was a little too late.

Qualifying draw for Penrith will be released tonight, and I've just seen that Alex has priority 1 for Toowoomba the week after Brisbane. So I'll guess that she's actually back in Australia
We will find out tonight.

Re: Alex Stevenson's Chat Thread. (!!!)

Is it possible, that Alex would make a second trip for the year all the way to Australia?

having pulled out of next weeks event in the states, Alex remains on the entry list for the $25,000 ITF in Penrith (Near Sydney), as priority 5. shes also on the entry list for the following weeks $25,000 event in Brisbane.
there are 4 $25,000 events, a week off, then 2 $60,000 events all down the East coast of Australia....

surely she wont be flying all the way here again....

I hope she does though

I don't think she ever sank this far down the list, even wayyyyyy back when she had shoulder surgery in 2004 and missed 9 months or whatever.

What could possibly be left for our beloved Queen of Tennis Drifters, with age 37 fast approaching?

How about the book she's been planning!?!

If her mother ghostwrites it with her, and if she is brutally honest, it could be a fun/fascinating/juicy glimpse into the world of bush league tennis, and the life of a fallen tennis phenom.

THIS is how they should pitch the book, imo (And don't say I never did anything for ya, Sexy) ---

'The love-child of a basketball legend and a hardscrabble female sports journalist of the 1970s, Alexandra Stevenson was BORN to be a champion. Raised by her loving mother beside the sultry beaches of Southern California, Alexandra flourished amid a dreamscape of private schools, lessons with some of the tennis's greatest coaches, and devoted friendships with the Williams sisters themselves. Though the spectre of an absentee father would haunt her childhood until a sensational 1999 run to the Wimbledon semifinals, Alexandra soon had the world at her feet. Signed by Nike and pursued by a fawning media, the giddy teen nevertheless seemed to court controversy and curiosity with every thunderous ace she served.

But sudden success comes with its own set of perils. The pressure to meet expectations weighs heavily on young shoulders, and Stevenson struggled to fulfill her potential amid the outwardly glamorous, globe-trotting lifestyle of a true tennis phenom. After an encouraging but brief burst into the worldwide Top 20 was followed by injury, Alexandra found herself plunged into a never-ending nightmare-realm of low-level backwater events, depleted finances, and disappearing "friends" as she toiled for over a decade to regain a foothold.

Now, almost 20 years after her fairy-tale Wimbledon breakthrough, Alexandra is ready to tell the whole story of her fascinating journey from the heights to the depths of professional tennis. In 'MY TENNIS-BAG FOR A TIARA,' Stevenson gives readers a never-before-seen glimpse into the secrets of the WTA Tour ... and into the harrowing underbelly of tennis's Challenger circuit, where starving girls scratch each other's eyes out over bad line-calls and wrestle over scraps of uneaten chicken-wing. You'll sit in the backseat as Alexandra and her Mom travel the highways and byways in their old Volvo, two Kerouackian lady-jocks adamantly pursuing the one, elusive result that could catapult them both back into the glittery glow of the spotlight.

You'll laugh. You'll gasp. You'll cry. You'll want to shove icepicks through your temples before it's over ... but you *will* be riveted by 'MY TENNIS-BAG FOR A TIARA.'

In Stores Everywhere.

(Seriously. I'd buy their book if it really dished-out the dirt and the camp. Wouldn't even mind the delusion. Come on, ladies. Get crackin'. I already wrote your synopsis for you. The book will be a HUGE hit, and the book tour an even better use of those mysterious travel funds) 😘
