Re: Alex Stevenson's Chat Thread. (!!!)

Were these matches played on the same day?

A curiously nostalgic match up given both were top 25 about 15 years ago. Eleni also likes grass and won at Hergontesch back in the day, but her form and ranking just now are even worse than Alex's if anything. Just a bad draw though.

Hopefully she has better luck at Surbiton.

Well, bummed about the loss to Eleni, but no shame in it.

Eleni is a very wily grass-courter, and it looks as if AS started out really strong.

No matter what, getting back on the grass in Europe and winning a match --any match-- is a moral victory for her. Glad she got to experience it again.

Hopefully she'll get another chance to play besides this one.

Too bad about the loss to Eleni.

nice to see her make it to europe and at least winning her first match back on grass. gl in QR2. Daniilidou is definetly winnable.

Wow, she made it over. As long as she's there, I hope something good happens.

She plays a low-ranked Brit newbie in R1, then a likely meeting with the comeback-hopeful Danilidou. And Storm Sanders is top seed.

If AS can find her grass court legs, it's not out of the question for her to qualify. I'd see the crafty Danilidou as her toughest possible obstacle, on this surface.

Good luck, Stevenson. Let's get it done.

If she can adjust to the grass and find her game, it might be worth it.

But her last overseas adventures on grass did not pay-off very well. It's a long way to travel to lose in qualifying, and she's far from guaranteed to make even the qualifying event in Surbiton, the next grass stop on the Brit ITF Tour.

I'm amazed she didn't grab mother, pile into the car, and head for the $10K in Buffalo, NY.

Her ranking, along with all her recent results, shows that she is currently a $10K-level player.

She could certainly be better than that, but she needs some confidence. She needs to get some successive wins in a main draw, somewhere --even, sad as it may be, in a $10K. If that's what it takes.

Spend thousands to go to Eastbourne and lose in the first qually round, make €250, then have to fly back?

Whatever floats her boat, but a smart plan would be to set a goal of actually WINNING a $10K event. Go to these events, get some confidence via wins that are at her current level, and then build on it.

Seriously: she's not far off from getting that Gail Falkenberg "old lady smell" ... but in Gail's case at least it makes sense.

Shuffle off to Buffalo, Sexy! Ask for a wild card! Win some main draw matches. You need them.

Ianchuk d. Stevenson 6-4 4-6 7-6(3)

Stevenson led 3-0 in the final set.

Tough loss. She blitzed Ianchuk 1 and 3 last year on this surface in Dothan.

Their stats for this match were almost identical, with Stevenson winning 94 points and Ianchuk winning 95.
