Re: Alex Stevenson's Chat Thread. (!!!)

Yeeps! Alex out of the Top 500!?

Surely this is not the "plan" she had for the end of her season.

Where she goes from here, turning 35 in December, is ... well, not much of a mystery. She'll keep up this bizarre flight of fancy in 2016, but she is boxing herself into an increasingly claustrophobic corner. If that ranking doesn't improve, she won't qualify to qualify at Challenger events.

Smart Goal for Alex:

Spend the off-season losing 30 pounds, building up physical endurance as much as possible, then play some satellite 10 and 15K events to at least win an actual tournament, ANY tournament, kid!

She still has the ability to at least be playing USA Challengers, but how she can afford to travel to any but the closest "by car" events is a head-scratcher.

The walls are closing in. I do think that, next year, we will only see her play a few odd, regional US events here and there (Dewonder Davis territory) and she will be forced to move on.

Good luck to her, whatever she does. (Hope that book of hers comes out -- I'd buy it and you know every single person on TF would buy it to read the deliciousness. It would blow Grace Jones's new autobio out of the water in both sales and entertaining delusion. WRITE THAT BOOK, ALEX!)

Ugh I am not happy she got a WC here. She needs some match wins and these draws are actually too tough for her. Please surprise us with a win over Brady, Alex. Won't be easy but come on!

gl alex, get a win this time. she really needs some singles wins. if her singles ranking drops a little more, she'll soon be ranked higher in doubles than in singles

Alex has recieved a WC for the $50,000 ITF in Las Vegas.

Playing Jennifer Brady in the opening round. Not playing doubles this week unfortunately.

Alex was on the entry list for the event in Las Vegas this week, but isnt in the Q draw. So she's either got a WC. or withdrawn.

Re: Alex Stevenson's Chat Thread. (!!!)

Alex played her 1st round match today in Albuquerque. It didn't go well.

A 6-2 6-3 loss.

Struggled to hold serve, held only twice for the match, both of which were in the 2nd set.
Had game points at 40-15 to make it 4-4 in the second but was broken.

Don't know what's happening to her doubles match, was stopped during the first set tiebreak yesterday, wasn't played today that I can see, and is the only doubles match not on the Oop For tomorrow..

You should find a way to personally write to Alex, mikireturns. Maybe you are the wake up call she needs and is waiting for.

I agree with mostly everything that was said. I was going to say playing this WC Jones is a tough draw for her, but really anyone here is currently. She does need to play $10ks but that's a moot point because she definitely won't. (She played a couple a few years ago and had miserable performances). Anyway, hope she can sneak some points and at least beat this Jones girl because I don't see her winning her 2nd round sadly.

I am happy to see Glatch agreed to play doubles with her. Glatch is a solid doubles player so they could potentially have a run if they mesh together. We shall see!

That, or she needs to concentrate on doubles, she made a final of a 50K this year yet she doesn't seem to take it seriously, even though that's her only slim chance of playing in the main draw of a Grand Slam. We'll see, but I bet we'll keep having this discussion for at least another decade
You're completely correct, but it becomes an exercise in futility to discuss. It's like nailing a foot to the floor and spinning in circles.

I used to take a mocking approach to Alexandra's silly career, but I have no desire to mock her now. As a longtime tennis observer, I actually feel a sense of worry about her, as in: "Is she out of her mind?"

It's long past the time when the mother should have sat her down and said, "Honey, go get a life, a career. You've been spinning your wheels to no avail for over a decade. Sometimes, the smartest people know when to 'regroup.' We don't have to call it 'quitting.' Let's call it 'recalculating' or something."

Yeah, well, that conversation apparently hasn't been broached, but even if it has, who knows what sort of Big Edie, Little Edie "Grey Gardens" scenario is happening here?

The main thing is that, as you stated, the most SENSIBLE route would be for her to play doubles like crazy, every chance and opportunity. Feather her funds for travel to these small events. At least.

But Alexandra has made a lot of enemies on the bumper-car circuit and cannot find ready doubles partners. She was recently playing with the daughter of her current "coach," but we all know how that player/coach partnership will end-up.

My thought is that she is a GREAT gal who is misdirected. She could have a fabulous career in tennis with her own academy, call her own shots, create something that is lifelong viable and rewarding.

I hope she wins a match or two at the New Mexico challenger, and I cheer her on, but ... ranked 489?

Build a tennis academy, Alex. In the Bahamas. A lot of people would support you and back you in that endeavor, and I would be one of them.

Stop beating yourself up for your mother's failed dreams and mistakes. Get away from her and be free.

A lot of us fans do love and care for your future.
