Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

i didnt realize it would be Sevastova next. Im afraid the Latvian will drag her left and right on baseline rallies

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Well it was routine win more or less, glad she won in straights, Crawford was peaking at the moments, but I think Garbi played wise with no risks concerning her thigh, otherwise it could have been shorter.

Fact is she marches on and on, makes easy but steady progress as the year goes on!

Now Sevastova and time for revenge for that USO early exit! She will get proper 2-day rest that is very good!

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I only saw some highlights of Garbi’s first round match. It seemed to me that she was performing better on her forehand again. She was hitting flatter and I think she was also using a slightly less extreme forehand grip. Maybe it was only about a strategy change because of her injury that she was more aggressive, but in general I think she is in good form. It would be a pity if her chances got diminished due to that injury.

Matchup-wise, an in-form Crawford with her heavy and flat hitting is not the easiest of opponents for Garbine anyway.

Tomorrow on RLA, the first night match, sandwitched between Noserer and Mooza
I think the Aussies loves her, since so far she's always been playing on the main court. I could be wrong though

Get your leg fixed and march on Garbine!

I was thinking the same thing after the first set and MTO, too.

It was kind of refreshing to see glimpses of a player trying to dictate and shorten the points as much as possible again.

Very encouraging to see that "Fighteruza" is back, great fight despite injury, hope it will heal now, she has 3 day pause till next match. It would be a shame if injury sidelines her now, when she really has a great chance given her form.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

In her PC, she had it's only a precaution and mostly mental (concerning her injury). I hope it's the truth. She smiles a bit too much it almost as if she try to hide it. I just hope it's really nothing serious and a session with physio can really help it for the next round.

Anyway, it's nice to see her FH is back when she cant put any of her first serve in She still has it

Apparently the girl who was always next to Sumyk in Brisbane called Alicia. I think she's on her team as physical trainer or something. Im not sure though, since that girl looks to skinny to be one

And she said that she just practiced today with Bacsinszky under the closed roof of RLA poking @Plies . I can imagine they are exchanging some pussy weak forehand on that slow surface

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

1st round vs Erakovic, I see bagels and breadsticks coming up. Someone mentioning Kerber, according to current form I would be more surprised if Kerber goes past Mugu on this GS than the other way around. I am optimistic about Garbiñe this time, she is making easy progresses along the way and things will start clicking sooner or later.

Don't mess this draw Garbiñe
She have to get to Kerber at least and it's not like she is on form or she hasn't beaten her a lot of times

I'm hoping for more titles, and consistency inside the Top 10, which I think is more difficult for her than having one of her purple patches and making another GS final. On the other hand, I was combing through the AO draw and the field is so so weak, not to mention Garbiñe's draw is literally a cakewalk of Erakovic/Davis/Sevastova/CSN in first four rounds, but knowing her GS results on a hardcourt, she'll flop somewhere along the way

I think the Gulf Swing and Sunshine Double will reveal more about where her game is, tbh.
It's like ALL the draw looks so weak. This certainly has to be the weakest GS in ages. As in every tournament these days, it feels like the best of the worst will win 2012-13 Serena would be hardly losing games.

On paper it would be inexcusable for Garbi to at least not BS her way to the QF based on some pride as a top player and her Brisbane form alone, even if that was not that much to shout about. But she's already lost to Sevastova, McHale and I could see her struggling against Davis; and this is a GS, and we know how well she's been handling the pressure since her breakthrough in 2015, so yeah, a flop it's also on the cards, as usual.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Her half in AO:

Quote:
(1)Angelique Kerber v Lesia Tsurenko
Q v Carina Witthoeft
Kristyna Pliskova v Viktorija Golubic
Yaroslava Shvedova v (27)Irina-Camelia Begu

(23)Daria Kasatkina v Shuai Peng
Louisa Chirico v Eugenie Bouchard
Pauline Parmentier v Misaki Doi
Coco Vandeweghe v (15)Roberta Vinci

(10)Carla Suárez Navarro v Jana Cepelova
Irina Khromacheva v Sorana Cirstea
Alison Riske v Madison Brengle
Q v (20)Shuai Zhang

(32)Anastasija Sevastova v Nao Hibino
Kristina Kucova v Christina McHale
Samantha Crawford v Lauren Davis
Marina Erakovic v (7)Garbiñe Muguruza

(4)Simona Halep v Shelby Rogers
(wc)Ashleigh Barty v Annika Beck
Q v (wc)Destanee Aiava
Patricia Maria Tig v (29)Monica Puig

(19)Kiki Bertens v Varvara Lepchenko
Ying-Ying Duan v Q
Q v Kurumi Nara
Kateryna Kozlova v (13)Venus Williams

(11)Elina Svitolina v Galina Voskoboeva
Francesca Schiavone v Q
Vania King v Q
Evgeniya Rodina v (24)Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

(26)Laura Siegemund v Jelena Jankovic
Katerina Siniakova v Julia Goerges
Anna Tatishvili v (wc)Jaimee Fourlis
Mariana Duque-Mariño v (8)Svetlana Kuznetsova
I hope she lives up her seeding and gets her match vs Kerber. A win over the defending champion and world no.1 in Slam (like last year ) might be good for her confidence. But again, I'm not holding my breath
