Re: Vika 2014 Schedule Thread

This match made it very clear that Vika needs all the play she can get this fall. Based on today I'm shocked she even made it to the quarterfinals .

Re: Vika 2014 Schedule Thread

That's exactly what's she should do... She should be "rested" so I take the Asian swing as her pre-season preparation. Build any kind of momentum and get into top form for the AO with a descent seeding. Like what Djokovic did last year, but Vikas YEC will be Sofia hahahahahah (is it dreaming too much?)

Re: Vika 2014 Schedule Thread

wow that's 3 weeks in a row, no way she will play all 3. and 1 week after, luxembourg. she is trying to get as many match play as possible. but that also tells me that she is not confident at all to go deep in the tournaments.

I wish she could skip one of the Asian tournaments and play more in Europe.

At the moment Vika's schedule after the US Open look like this:

Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo (September 15 - September 21 , 2014) :

Dongweng Motor Wuhan Open (September 21 - September 27, 2014):

China Open in Beijing (September 27 - October 5, 2014):

BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open (October 13 - October 18, 2014):

She had enough break all year! She needs tournaments to get s good ranking for Aussie Open.

iGOAT Vika is on the entry list for Tokyo . I know she loves that city and tournament, but she's definitely required to play Wuhan AND Beijing, so will face huge fines if she doesn't and had spoken last year about wanting more of a break after the USO. She may withdraw if she does at the USO I imagine but this also implies that she is definitely serious about the rest of the year.

Re: Vika 2014 Schedule Thread

At the moment it looks like Vika will play a World Team Tennis match in Philadelphia on July 15, 2014, and after that she will play with Bob Bryan at V-Grid Tennis Fest in Camarillo, California on July 19, 2014. That's before her next tournament starts in Stanford.
Camarillo, Calif., – Two-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka will reunite with winning 2008 French Open mixed doubles partner Bob Bryan this Saturday at the popular V-Grid Tennis Fest presented by Alexander Cadillac and Esurance and featuring Mike and Bob Bryan.
“Of course we are really happy and thankful that our longtime pal, Vika Azarenka, is coming to help out our Foundation and play the event,” Bob Bryan said. “We had a blast playing mixed together at the French and what a thrill to win that title together.”
In the featured match of the day, Bob Bryan and Azarenka will take on Mike Bryan and one of the U.S.’s top juniors, Las Vegas’ Kimberly Yee, who over the weekend received junior tennis’ highest honor by winning the Bill Talbert Sportsmanship award at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Re: Vika 2014 Schedule Thread

Agreed, she needs to reclaim her place and the only way to do that is by playing and winning.

Re: Vika 2014 Schedule Thread

As much as these matchups scare me, Vika really needs to play them to reassert herself. She needs to show that on a hardcourt she can still beat Pova. That Petra is still Petra, that Agatha is still her pigeon.

The only player that Vika should ever lose to is Serena and even that is a 50/50 shot.

Igor_Biscan Not having a bye is good. I don't think any of the top four seeds will be wanting to see vika in their quarter.

Hopefully we shall see a long tournament in Stanford, and Vika will get much needed matchplay there. She looks fit and ready to play, and there is no danger for burn-out unlike some Vika's rivals who looked quite tired and covered in bandage at Wimbledon.
She'll be fifth , after Reehanna, P3tra, Lady Aga, and Carebear. That could be good though as she gets a first round match instead of a bye, but watch her end up in Reehanna's quarter .

I really don't like how the tournament/player scheduling works anymore. I mean, I understand you don't want players to vulture to blatantly but still, if someone is willing to play and tourney is willing to pay then have at it. I mean wouldn't Istanbul want the possibility of an Azarenka/Wozniacki final?
The top 10 rules for internationals are stupid. They don't suit anyone. They don't suit the tournaments who lose out and they don't suit players.

The rule should be changed to top 10 players can only count 2 international results, not you can only play 2.

It wouldn't even make a big difference. As most would still have none. But it would change these ludicrous scenarios where players effectively can't play.
