Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

WTA Insider said it's neck injury. What is it with Spanish players and neck injury. I remember CSN had one in Antwerp final, where Saint Kim took over her place and schooled the tournament winner, Petkovic in a exho match

Needs to sit down, re-evaluate, and most importantly heal.

ugh, the moment you hate it when you're right.
Muguruza is turning into Stan-Kei hybrid version of WTA. Random peaking with random injuries the entire season. Mess. Girl, those unnecessary grinding is bad for your body

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

She seems to be following pretty much the pattern of last year, doing quite badly for her potential, though with some better results here and there, and suddenly finding some form and her old game back (well, sort of) because of the favorable slow, high bouncing conditions. How far will she go from here I have no idea. It's good to see her play at a high level again, but I don't expect any significant turnaround once the clay season is over and she reverts to the old routines with Sumyk.

Slower conditions surely help her to get better prepared for her shots, but what helps her even more on clay is the higher ball bounce that suits her extreme forehand grip better.

^ Beat her when she was playing much worse before the match than she is now.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

It's interesting (but perhaps not important, given how sporadic she is) to note:

By making the SFs in Rome, Garbs will get a top 4 seeding at RG.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Fully expecting her to lose to Elaine, but this should be enough prep for RG.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

@ServiceGagnant In theory you are right, but dont forget that other girls can play tennis as well. Just look what Annet is doing her win over Mugu was no joke, the girl is a real deal.

So as long as she is winning it is ok, she absolved Ostapenko even with scrappy performance, that same Ostapenko we all feared and trembled of, as if she was peak Serena or KaroPlis at least! :sne:

I generally dislike this atmosphere bcs many here are first jumping to critisize but are last to say congrats when she is actually winning and playing good. Stop complaining and enjoy tennis, victories are just around the corner.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Her record in 2017 is 14-9, where she win those 14 matches 7 in straight and 7 with the decider set. From those 7 straight set win, she won 4 in AO, and the last time was in Indian Wells. It's a worrying trend really, that she cannot win against people she should win against in convincing manner.

Can she please winning pretty for once?

The state of WTA is truly sickening
Well she let her 3 games combined in 2nd and 3rd, lets talk about that. Ostapenko was really on fire in 1st set and if you ask me it was smart by Garbine to let her shoot through herself in that set, and somehow give her false confidence, and then she stepped up and forced some of her errors. Imagine if she fought too much that 1st set like vs. Woz in IW just to come to TB or sth and then lose it again, then I promise you it would be even great disaster in 2nd and sth like a baggel or breadstick. She did wisely there, her 3 set record this year is impressive I think, good thing is once she wins that 1st set she rarely even loses a match (only match I remember was Kontaveit that is not falling in this category, rather an outlier).

We will get an answer today, Görges is anything but a cakewalk especially on clay, and if Julia also makes so much UEs as Jelena yesterday, than it has sth to do with Garbine game impacting it, rather then opponents collapsing.

Generally I think we should be cheering her more, instead of complicating things too much. She takes a lot of nerves to watch but is interesting and you never know with her. I am praying for QF with Konta and SF with Pliskobot so she tries to straighten out her h2h a bit!
