Re: Jelena Ostapenko

This was a really good week for her even though the last two matches were quite a struggle. It just gives her some great momentum before Wuhan and the last few weeks of her Asian swing. She has a BYE in Wuhan which is great, but she will need to be striking right from the start if she wants to get past Strycova and make a deep run. Hopefully the wins this week have given her the confidence and match fitness she needs

A lot better in the game she served for the match. W 2&2,plays Cepede next who I haven't seen this tournament but she doesn't really have any weapons so it should be another easy win

I get what you saying, but Sloane is from a much bigger market bringing in more media, viewers and money at the moment. No brainer choice if you are WTA. Also they have a simple justification of Sloane not earning enough points to qualfy since she missed half the season.
Just really hope this scenario won't happen, i would rather have both playing and see Konta, Woz or Halep sitting at the sidelines.

WTa really should have changed rules years ago so that slam champs automatically qualify for YEC.

Although technically there is another trouble. WTA rules allow 1 WC for the YEC finals, means only top7 is direct entry. Of course WTA never used the WC, so every time just the 8th player gets direct entry. But this year is wacky, and 2 slam champion on the brink of missing Finals WTA might make a choice. So imagine if Penko stays 8th in race and Sloane also doesn't qualifies (big chance she won't do much this year)... oh boy.
What would be important is getting into top7. The only one in close distance is Konta, Woz already in 700pts away from Penko seems too far. Of course this is only a problem if everybody in top7 plays.
