But I don't think Kiki's problems are just mental, and I'm not seeing her "success" in doubles carrying over to singles (cf. Linz, Lux, Auckland) right now. What I think she needs to do is to go back to basics and hit a million boring balls in boring practice to get her serve and backhand working again. She's not losing all those R1 matches because her volleying skills are rusty, no!?

I've heard some pros say the same thing.

Of course, there was that whole thing about "success in doubles."

So far this year, she has lost in the first round in 4 out of 5 tournaments. Sticking to doubles inevitably means waiting around and "wasting" time I'm wishing she would dedicate to basic training and fixing her serve, backhand, etc. So right now doubles seems like a distraction from something she should not be distracted from.

Thanks for the play-by-play [emoji1] I didn't know the results before reading this, so it was like riding a mini doubles roller coaster [emoji567]
