Re: Puerto Rican hope Monica Puig

Monica Puig will play Lauren Davis (#122) for a spot in Washington QFs. Their last match was in Toronto PanAm Games last year, where Monica won from a set down to win the bronze medal.

In my opinion, this should be easier for Monica than Dodin, but Davis can play some good tennis when she is focused. Monica needs to stay focused and be aggressive. Vamos!!!

This match, sorry, but a mess. Broken early in the second, had opportunities to break back and didn't. The third set was a roller-coaster. Got up a break twice in the third and got broken back right away. The third time she broke, she served for the match, and successfully did it.

9 Aces/8 DFs, 48% of 1st serve percentage. 73% of first serve points won tho.

Now against the winner of Davis/Rogers. Winnable match, but should up her level.
Every time she has less than 60% first serve effectiveness, she gets into
trouble in the match...Encouraged because she had more Aces than DF;s...
She should do better in R-2.My take, she will reach the SF match and
have a better than even chance to win this tournament...Have a Great
Evening David!!!

Depending on the Canadian points defense and her other results, she can certainly secure a SEED at the US OPEN.
Analysis time

Monica should be seeded 3rd in Washington. If she has the right draw and continues her good form, she could reach SF and win 110 points, being 4 points shy from defending all her points from 2015 HC summer swing. If she indeed reaches SF there, the only thing she can do is add points to that ranking.

She made the MD in Montreal. A positive considering she could go far in Washington and not having to decide between Washington QF/SF/F or Montreal qualies.

Should be on the Top 4 seeds in Florianopolis. Good chance to win even more points there.

Then, Olympics. I have the feeling she will be super motivated and could be a dark horse with a good draw.

Made Cincinnati MD for the first time in her career with her own ranking. Let's see what happens there.

And finally, the US Open. She's like ~200 points away from a seeding. And we know she can do it!

Vamos!!!

Because of Flavia Pennetta's retirement on the rankings, Monica is up to #33 this week! Her new career high!

Re: Puerto Rican hope Monica Puig

Ironically, Monica won her first doubles GS match ever with Mariana Duque-Marino, defeating Tara Moore and Conny Perrin 6-0 7-5 in the first round of Wimbledon.

This wins will take Monica from #888 to ~#347 Monica is now a doubles specialist

R32 against Errani/Kalashnikova or Strycova/Krajicek

Monica was so nervous on the first set. Thank God the rain came to the rescue. Vamos Monica! You can turn this around!

Re: Puerto Rican hope Monica Puig

Monica is down 1-6 1*-2 40-15 down. Let's see how she plays after the rain delay. Last year she was in a similar situation when she was down 2-6 and already playing in the 2nd set against Rybarikova and Monica turned it around. Let's do this, Monica!!!
