Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

Yes.. She got rid of Peterson and is now in the final after dismissing Kostova 6-2 6-1.
I was more worried about this Kostova girl..Surprised it was easier than I thought.
She got Grace Min in the final .. This is not good for the WC. It means Grace Min now has as much chance of winning the WC as Taylor.
Whoever wins here will be a step ahead. And all will decided at Indan Harbour next week.
The way it is now, Taylor needs to make the Final there to increase her chances.
Her chances increase if she goes further than Min G next week. Still that may not be enough if another US player wins that Indian Harbour. Tough.

But if she doesn't win this MDWC, at least she gave herself a chance, the past 3 weeks, to play the French Open Qualifiers.
She is now ranked #236 in the LIVE Ranking. Great job. She shouldn't skip the French Open, wildcard or not. Just keep playing.

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

Bad luck on the wild card. But this is also a good opportunity to give Peterson a spanking, so ... 50/50.

She needs to speed ahead of this stuff sooner, rather than later.

She is playing Peterson again. R1 in Charlottesville... This tournament is part of the French Open Wildcard Contest.
Taylor out of wind in that last match. Hope she is rested and ready to play some power tennis.

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

Looks like Taylor is finally getting it back together.

Reached the final, before losing to Rebecca, 4 & 2.

For her efforts over the last two weeks, she'll go from #385 back to #273 in the rankings.

Way to go, Taylor !!!!.. work those ranking numbers so you can stop playing Qualifying rounds at ITF.
2 Semi Finals in a row... far better than the entire last year.
But you got to put some meat behind those serves and those ground strokes. Can't loops balls in the middle of the court and expect your opponent to hand them back to you. At WTA level, they eat those for breakfast. Got to play Chicago style.

Good luck in the Final against Peterson. !!!!

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

ITF sucks.. You win all those matches to get only 9 points, 5 points, and sometimes 0 points for 2 or 3 matches..
Taylor won both her Qualifying round, plus QF run in the main Draw.. All that for a meager 9 points in Pelham.

That place is worse than a jungle. Every player needs a run or 2 or 3 of those tournaments in a row somewhere to make a ranking move.

$50,000 DOTHAN, AL, USA
Just won a qualifier Q1: 6-0 6-4 .. Total point: 0 .... lol lol
if she wins her next match (Q2): she gets 1 point.

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

Seems like things might be starting to come together again.

Taylor just won her 2nd consecutive and 3rd ITF doubles title this year with Asia Muhammad.

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

Tough loss for Taylor to Pera, but it's at least a sign of progress. If she were fit, she would have won the match.

Still, she's maybe getting somewhere.

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

How is Taylor doing after beating the 69-year old?
Will she make the Final?

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

Unfortunately she lost the final rounds of qualies. She just can't seem to get over this hump.

Well, I absolutely think this lovely young lady can do it ... she just has to disconnect from ANYBODY who is telling her she can be fat and play pro ball.

Period.

And either the people currently coaching her are trying to bring her fitness into order, or they are enabling her in one way or another. It really is as simple as that.

It's okay, Taylor. Martina Navratilova was fat and kind of lazy for many years, until she discovered ... Nancy Lieberman.

Choose a career, kid, because you are brilliant, talented, sweet, kind, lovable, and WONDERFUL.

But you are too fat, right now, for a sustained pro tennis impact. Stop playing the convenient martyr/victim ... you'll only end-up like Alexandra Stevenson. And nobody wants that.

Lose the chunk. Develop your beautiful game under the guidance of ... yourself and that special coach who is still out there and willing to help you become the champion of your dreams.

Take control, Taylor, because you are both beautiful and brilliant, and your young years should not be wasted on semi-efforts.

Whether it's tennis or something else that you love, go for the thing you love, Taylor, and put 100% into whatever you choose.

You'll always be an awesome Lady.

Re: Taylor Townsend Thread

Watching the match in her loss to Vania, it looks like Taylor has been reduced to one shot (other than her volleys) and that's her cross court forehand. Every other shot looks inconsistent, has no confidence, and prone to break down within two shots. Even the serve level has dropped dramatically. She was playing much better tennis during her junior years.

1. Get the HELL rid of her mother. Completely. It's not such a stunning thing: most kids, at age 18, take control of their own affairs. Her mother is an enabler and is slowing her down. The mother has no claim on her tennis. Her mother's legal and moral responsibility was to simply raise her to the age of adulthood. Tell Mother to kindly get a new hobby.

2. Do NOT go back to Zina Garrison. Zina could give some nifty tactics, here and there, but Zina's game has been alienated from modern women's tennis for 30 years. She didn't do anything special for Taylor -- she just coached her at a lucky time, for a six-month period before the others knew how to handle Taylor and dismiss her. Plus, Zina is MORBIDLY obese, and has little business coaching any current pro. She is like a second "Mother Enabler."

3. Get away from the Young family. Especially Donald "Fat Frog" Sr. They have ruined their own son's career with their enabling crap.

4. Grow-up, lose the chunk, and hire a coach who knows no one in your family and who can help you blend your big, flat drives with your superb net skills.

Other than this, she's DONE. She'll be lucky to play for an elite college team (and get a scholarship) or else end-up a perpetual weirdo/nutjob like Alexandra Stevenson.

She's not going to suddenly "rise" from the crap-350-400 rankings again unless she takes full, determined control of her own fitness and career as an adult. Ain't gonna happen.

If she doesn't get a grip soon, at best she'll end-up on some cheap 2am sports-channel "Whatever Happened To ...?" show, and she'll be a poodle-groomer at a Petco in Topanga, California.

It's sad, but Taylor needs to start making some strong, informed adult decisions on her own.
Her mom isn't really around actually, as her mom is an administrator in Florida, and Taylor doesn't train there anymore... She also doesn't travel with Taylor and lets Taylor do her own thing.
You might be seeing Donald Young's mom or his groupie free loathers. They seem to be in all of her matches.
