Yup. Serena's SF withdrawal suddenly looks like strategic tank from this perspective.

At the time I thought it was a mix of injury and returning the YEC favor. But it turned out to be a poisonous fruit. Not because of the "curse", but the terrible final that followed, from which Simona learned all the wrong lessons.

Re: Curse of Indian Wells

Serena Williams has won one major during the time she played Indian Wells. Sixteen since she stopped. That thing is real.

It still seems the curse has rubbed off on Aggie a little bit. She hasn't been doing too well since then.

Re: Curse of Indian Wells

What a load of shite.

You could basically take any tournament and twist it into a curse.

2008 - Ana wins IW then wins her first slam a few months later. What a curse

Oh wait, she flopped after that so it's cursed.

Suzanne Lenglen won Roland Garros, then later she died, is RG cursed too?

Re: Curse of Indian Wells

Interesting thread . We can also talk about this year's "curse" of the part of the draw from which Pennetta came into final. Whoever won in that part of the draw and played great match,in next one was unusually bad. Giorgi played great against Sharapova and then really really bad against Pennetta. Stephens played great match vs Ivanovic and Kleybanova but then much worse performance against Flavia. Cibulkova played great against Kvitova and then possibly the worst performance on IW against Na Li. Torro-Flor played outstanding against Kerber and in next match really bad. It's ok to lose, but all of them played inexplicably really bad tennis in next match. Strange...

In fact we can say things have turned out pretty awesome for Serena since ditching that spooky tournament. All the reason we were so worried with her Mandela talk about returning there. God forbid
