I miss Dinara alot. Has she officialy retired or is there any chance of her coming back. I also agree she had a good chance to win the Olympic final, despite that Dementieva owns her 5-0 on hard courts.

Re: Welcome to The Good Life - Dinatards chat thread vol.3

Norby, maybe her schedule was quite difficult, but I've seen times when a player had to win two matches in one day due to rain delays...and still went on to win the tournament. It seems like you always have an excuse for Dinara...which doesn't bother me too much cuz I wish the best for her,too....but you don't see champions making excuses very often as we've seen frequently with Dinara.

Norby,my car was stolen and had the motor removed when the police found it....I'm tempted to wait in the shadows at the place where the car was abandoned so that I can blast some bulletholes in the faces of the thieves whenever they arrive with another stolen car,but my gf persuaded me to let it go....Still,I've got lots of paperwork to fill out so I've gotta run

there was a lot of rain delay during that Olympics, Dinara's schedule on the last 3 days was a mess. Long singles and doubles matches. She finished her doubles match sunday 3-4am, and singles final was scheduled on sunday 4pm. Dont tell me thats normal or helped her.

Well, maybe you're partially right,Norby, but there's no solid excuse for why Dinara would be exhausted in that match...so,again,that comes back on HER.Unless they played a 4-hour match the day prior,do you see any great champions running out of gas in major finals??

As is the case with Novotna who had a legendary choke vs. Graf when she HAD been dominating the match, previous failures don't seem so bad when you finally break through and win a huge title.Jana eventually did that but Dinara never did.Granted, she was much younger when she was forced to step away from tennis but, again, the aggravation of that back injury was the result of her own poor decision-making in failing to get proper treatment

Norby,it appears that you're taking one of your beloved detours from Reality. Are you saying that you were sure bEFORE that match took place that Dinara was going to win??Given Elena's previous track record at Slams,I can understand such sentiment...IF that's what you meant.

The fact is,though,Dinara never gave a particularly strong performance in any of those big finals we've discussed.I vented on poor Sveta for an hour at TF before finally waking up and apologizing to her fans when I came to grips with the cold, hard truth that Dinarik didn't deserve to win that day...and it was no different at the OG.You should pick your enemies better than you've done with the lovely, classy Elena who earned her moment of glory by kicking Serena's ass in the Beijing QFs.As painful as it is to accept,Dinarik put herself in that no-slam position by never being psychologically/mentally ready in those finals

That was the second career-defining match when both Dinara and her opponent really needed the victory---RG 2008 was the other.Obviously,Elena would have never become the sort of laughingstock that the Serb now is(incidentally,Big Masha truly put the fraud in her place a couple of days ago),but a loss there in Beijing would've changed how people viewed her over the long term. Finally, when Dinarik blew her THIRD good chance at glory at RG 2009,she couldn't live with it and neglected her health concerns as a result

Yes,they were narrating Elena's victory on the WTA page, where they did an entire series on WTA gold medalists from 1988 to 2008.They suggested that, maybe,Dinara was worn out from playing such an exhaustive summer schedule...or that she just melted under the pressure after the first set.At least she WON a set and showed up to offer a challenging match....unlike the 2009 RG Final. When I saw that terrified look on her face as she was about to leave the tunnel,I knew the match was already over unless Sveta twisted an ankle or something.....Anyway,there are a lot of strong Russian performers at these Olympics so I hope that Dinarik is enjoying the Games

^ she would "injure" herself after 1st of 7 anyway, so those painful events wouldnt happen.
