Glad she got a medal, you could see how much it meant to her. Hopefully she builds on it and she does well in the next few grand slams

She medaled at the Olympics. All her hard work paid off.

For me, she is now both game wise and ranking wise at a point where she should really try to maximize her results in singles. So I would like to see her skipping doubles in slams from next year on. Thats the only (minor) thing, for me it seemed she didn't play as well as she could in her semifinal. I'd like to blame it on fatigue due to playing both singles and doubles the day before.
Probably there was some truth to that, but the fatigue would be a larger factor for the Olympics or a Premier tournament than a Slam. But you may be right that she'll move in that direction, with an Olympic medal no longer an immediate goal.

Lots of positives for her to take from this week, even in the two singles losses. Regardless of what the ranking points say, this the biggest event apart from the Slams, and she has every reason to believe she can make some Slam semis in singles and win Slam titles in doubles going forward.
I don't want to over value Olympic tennis but Kiri grew up in Russia where the Olympics are king so that's why I think it means so much to her to win a doubles bronze medal. And that's why I thought it would crush Kiri if she didn't win any medals after making the semi's in singles and doubles. Thankfully Maria and Nadia came up big today.

Thanks for the great pictures.

Re: Kiri representing her country in the '12 London OLYMPICS

I'm very happy and relieved for Maria and Nadia to win the bronze medal. They deserve it. Kiri was truly the unsung hero of Olympic tennis making the semi's in both singles and doubles. I thought not medalling at all in either event might crush her this summer and fall. Thank God that didn't happen. But I also feel that winning a bronze medal and doing so well in the Olympics even with an insane overworked schedule should propel Kiri forward the rest of the year making her realize she is capable of doing good things in tennis more often than she has her first 10 years on tour. It's time for Makiri to make a serious run at the top 10 and making a grand slam semifinal or 2 in her career.

On a side note I love the Makiri Olympic post match point celebration where she falls on her back on the grass court and stomps her feet and screams like a little kid. :scream:
