Re: Watching Sandra Zaniewska Grow

Sandra rushing into 15k Hammamet singles final after beating #145 Isabella Shinikova 6-2 7-5

By the way, here's something she posted on LinkedIn a few days ago.

Today I had a really bad day. And by really bad, I mean really bad. And that isnít simply because I lost a match, I mean, Iíve lost plenty of those in my career, but today it was different.

It was different because before, during and after the match my whole life - previous matches, actions, decisions were coming and going and I couldnít seem to escape them.

So, I am a tennis player. I like to call myself a professional, because it technically is my job, however I am not one of the lucky ones to make money from it (yet - that I also like to add).

I am 25 years old and my best ranking (so far) was 142 in the world. That was 5 years ago. Not bad for some of you, amazing for other, and Ďmehí for anyone that ever got above that number.

However I am not here to talk about the past, because see, that past is what was haunting me today. Well, maybe it is going to be a little bit about the past. I mean, how could it not? After all so many obstacles on my, anyoneís road, are there for a while.

And what are these obstacles for a tennis player?

Well, aside of the tangible obstacles, probably the biggest one is our mind. Thatís right, it isnít an exclusive obstacle for tennis players. Itís an obstacle for all of us. The good news is, it can also be our ally. We just need to figure out how to turn it into one and guess what, today, and many other days I havenít succeeded at that.

So, how do we actually deal with that? Thatís an excellent question and unfortunately I donít think there is an answer to that. I mean, there is, but it is different for everyone. And it is up to each and every one of us to find that answer for ourselvesÖ

And? Not that simple, is it? I havenít found it yet either. It might well be that there is more than one answer for each and every one of us. It only gets more complicated this way, but so are obstacles.

Since I canít give you an answer on how to overcome your obstacles, Iíll tell you what you can do on days when you only have questions and canít seem to come up with any answers.

You can cry. Cry a lot, if that helps. You can also laugh, go among people and socialise or cuddle yourself up in your sheets and lay there staring at the ceiling. You can do anything that you wish, but there is one thing you must not allow yourself to do. And that is to take that as a permanent state. For this, is only temporary. It might last an hour, a day, maybe a week, but eventually itíll go away, because you will make it go away. Whatever you are doing, you need to keep on dreaming and believing. Believing? Youíll get there. First try, try to believe. Keep on chasing the dreams that light your heart up, whatever they might be. I know itís tough and I know often it seems like it doesnít make sense. And maybe more people tell you that and that puts you down even more. But you canít listen to them. Donít listen to them, not even to your own mind right now. Just look into your heart and try to listen to what it has to say - and I believe it tells you to keep on going. After all, this planet needs more people like you. More people that keep on going for their dreams no matter what, more people that pursue the things they are made of.

Tonight I am going to go to bed with the same feeling. Because honestly, I just want this day to be over. My mind isnít helping in getting me back on track right now and thatís ok. I allow it to be that way, for tonight.

I know that tomorrow morning I will wake up, open my balcony door and hear the sound of tennis balls hitting the strings of rackets, the heavy groans of the players practicing from the moment the sun rose and Iíll smile. Iíll smile because Iíll know that this is the exact place where I need to be, or better to say - the exact place, where I want to be.

And sometimes, thatís all you have and all you need.

Re: Watching Sandra Zaniewska Grow

From her FB page today:

Very happy with my performance this week, even though my game wasn't at the highest, I have been really strong mentally and it had a big impact on me succeeding this week. It's been a while since I brought the winner's trophy home and I can't tell you how much it means to be able to do it again. Even though it is 'just' a 10k, being able to play and follow my dreams every single day means the world to me. There have been so many times when I thought it was over, but I found to strength to get up, shake the dust off and try again. All of it wouldn't be possible without the people that are by my side, day in and day out, so thank you for always believing, even at times when it's hard for me to keep my own head up.

Sandra lost 6-1 4-6 2-6. Well, I hope she will get closer and closer to her best level after a few more tournaments
She plays in the doubles draw with Kasia Kawa, could be interesting to follow.

Re: Watching Sandra Zaniewska Grow

Her back injury made her no gift, though she seems to be able to play but I don't know if we will see her in the top 150 again
She withdrew from all the tournaments she had entered for next week, but she's still on some entry lists on the week after (prio 1 for 25k Cairo).
