Re: Caroline Garcia

Caro starts her defence vs Jelena Jankovic. Jelena's been so bad this season - but still has to be respected

nazzac Next she defends her Mallorca title then Wimbledon. So not a lot of grass court matches for her

Re: Caroline Garcia

I did not watch the match, but we need to not forget that Karo is #3.. and a little more experience than Caro. I heard she rushed a little at some important points..
Anyway good result overall, can't wait for the next tournament.

I guess the coach came up with the game plan which may be the problem for this match

Re: Caroline Garcia

i feel so sad for Garcia not being in the semi finals, it would've been great to see a French player making the semi final at RG

but she should be proud for having made the QF

Re: Caroline Garcia

I am just glad she did not get completely overwhelmed by the situation.

Yes, in the big stages of the match Pliskova was the better player, but that is to be expected as she is more experienced in these matches than Caroline.

Judging by the highlights the played pretty well but did not use the right tactics to win. She tried to 'Out-Pliskova' Pliskova it seems and unless Karolina has an off day or Caro really plays well, she is not going to win that way. She needed to move Karolina around a bit more.

I only saw the handshake and not when she left the court, but i liked the handshake, not only because they seem friendly with each other, but also because Caroline did not look like she took the defeat hard. She was actually smiling during the handshake and i liked that. Hopefully she looks positively on her tournament.

Another thing, i think Caroline really handled herself well here. There has been a lot of drama surrounding herself, Kiki and the whole Fed Cup situation, but Caroline remained classy. She did not say anything stupid in response, she did not give a salty handshake to Alize and she did not get carried away with the crowd.

I think despite the comments towards her and the attempted character assassination, people are beginning to see Caroline for who she really is and warm to her. I always believed she had a really unfair reputation of being an arrogant brat, but now people are seeing that is not the case.

Re: Caroline Garcia

Yes if you told me before the tournament she would make the quarters I would have taken that for sure (regardless of opponents).
It was a good match vs Pliskova, the only real let down was the tiebreak. But she fought hard. Hopefully this will set up a good 2nd half of the season.

nazzac She lost but i hear Pliskova played well and Caro wasnt good enough in key moments.

Still a great tournament for her. It is something she can build on for the future

Re: Caroline Garcia

Big day tomorrow should she get on to play and not be rained off!!!

I am happy with how far Caro has come this tournament. She has had a good draw but has faced a variety of different players in different conditions and played them well. I was impressed with how she handled the Cornet match until the end where she started struggling with nerves.

Caroline is a better clay courter than Pliskova so in some ways she should win this match. But there is a lot of pressure on her being the only remaining French player (both men and women!) and being in her first quarter final. I hope she can handle it because i do not want to see her collapse under it.

I will not go into this one with expectation. A quarter final finish is a good one and despite Pliskova not being great on clay, she is still one of the best players on tour at the moment. I feel a little more relaxed going into this one than i was going into the other matches as i will not be too disappointed by a loss, i just hope that it is not a bad defeat for her.

There is a big chance for her though to make the semi finals. Allez Caro!!!

Re: Caroline Garcia

That went better than i expected. Caro did well handling the conditions and the pressure for the majority of the match but get tight towards the end (She hit the most hilarious double fault ever) but she recovered and won the match.

So proud and so happy for her that despite everything she has been through she has made her first slam quarter final with potential of going even further.

And a nice handshake at the end showing her class.

Re: Caroline Garcia

I'm guessing this match will be on Chatrier? It should suit her.

Apply margin, and let Pliskova hit herself out of the court.

Re: Caroline Garcia

So Caroline defeated Alizé 62 64.

Considering the windy conditions, she played a solid match until *4-2 in the second set. Then it got quite messy and neither of them was able to hold serve until the end of the match.

But hey, I am extremely proud of Caroline that she got this far despite all the problems that she had to face this season.

I hope she will be able to enjoy her first QF at a slam against Karolina.

Re: Caroline Garcia

I cannot believe I have only read now what Kiki said about Caro's lack of education. Quelle conne !
Caro has never made anything bad against the team and she has become the black sheep only because Kristina has lost the FC tie against Switzerland.
Hope Caro will build on confidence and grow up to finally to defend herself. Enough of her being the nice victim!
Today's match should be particularly important to her career and honor.
