Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Great week! Did well to beat Zanevska Was actually down a set to Alexandra fkn Stevenson in QR1 so :hysterical:

Only pity is that she didn't beat AVU and make the final, she would have given herself a small chance of getting a MDWC for Wimbledon (Ikkley winner gets a MDWC but Rybarikova is already in). Unlikely she'd get one now but a very solid grass ITF season. Pity she didn't close against Krunic otherwise she'd likely have a final and sf on her singles grass season record but oh well.

Onto Wimbledon Q now. I assume Marina will have a low seed if q seeds are done from this week's rankings (after gaining Ikkley points)?? She needs a good draw to qualify, her ranking is 220 without Wimbledon points. Marina isn't playing Fed Cup so at least it seems she'll spend time post-Wimbledon building up her ranking - hopefully she makes it to USO qualies

Luckily after this Marina has no points to defend till November, plenty of chance to move back towards top 100

Fantastic week for Marina - in a 100k event she qualified, made it to the semifinals!

Marina qualified through 100k event, and won first round match - 4 wins on the trot, first time in a while!

A nice point from Marina at Surbiton.

Shame she didn't beat Rat Girl. She's still in the doubles though.

My guess is she will play $100ks Surbiton-Manchester-Illkey? Good opportunity to get some points there. But will she have to go through Wimbledon qualifying?

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Such a sad loss, she tried. Was following it with Petey on twitter and it was especially painful when up 4-1 in the TB, Shelby rained down a bunch of winners on Marina - Marina didn't even hit a UE. That huge point at 4-4 when Shelby barely got the return back in was the difference.

Also the bp at 2-2 in the second and 15-30 up at 4-4* when Marina had got things going again, unfortunate errors at both points

Ranking will tumble after Wimbledon, hopefully she hits the ITFs and gets herself a stable ranking this time, the past year has been hanging onto Rabat and Wimbledon. Not a terrible loss, the game is there, just needs to get winning again

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Thought I was dreaming then and Marina hit a one handed backhand DTL. On the replay, I can see it was two handed, but she brushed up like a one hander.

I really think Marina is one of those female players who should have learnt a one hander but never did..NVM.

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Marina is not playing too badly. She just needs to find a way to hang on until she gets an opportunity to turn the match her way.

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

French Open draw for her;

(4)Muguruza v Schiavone
Kontaveit v Niculescu
Larsson v Vikhlyantseva
(wc)Georges v (27)Putintseva
(22)Lucic-Baroni v Buyukakcay
Erakovic v Rogers
Q v Doi
Brady v (13)Mladenovic

Not the worst draw for her... Rogers is certainly beatable...

Re: Marina Erakovic Cheering Thread

Agreed, top 100 looked inevitable after Wimbledon and she never actually made it, #103 was her highest I believe So many matches she could have won to make it, but didn't

Yep, 142. Set to drop out of top 200 after WB points are off believe. Nothing else to defend till November though at least.

Hopefully. She's historically sucky at post-USO Asia...but then again with her ranking I suppose she won't have to worry about Asia Though she could sneak into a few of the Chinese internationals quali draws.

Yes, such stop-start, she needed to build on the Rabat final and Wimbledon R3 but unfortunately she lost a tragic amount of three setters in a row and it all went downward. Especially AO against Muguruza, was so winnable but Marina turned into a crackpot in the second, when had she taken gps for 5-1 and likely won the set, Garbine probably would have retired

Oh well. Marina remains optimistic, and she could still play for another 5 years or even more, but she needs to get her act together soon. I resigned myself to the fact that Marina's career will be another one that never was - maybe if she'd beaten Tammy in R3 Wimbledon 2008 in her first R3 GS, so she didn't develop a mental block, maybe if she hadn't had a losing streak afterwards, maybe if she'd beaten Robson at Wimbledon 2013 She was in such good form then, looking back now. Could have gone top 30.

I just hope Marina gets to a R16 at a slam before she retires, but that is looking optimistic at this stage.
I think in hindsight Wimbledon 2008 certainly played a huge role in her downfall, and such a shame it was at the hands of one of her mentors. Probably should have been top 30, maybe even top 20 on her day! Tennis in New Zealand is in such bad shape these days

To be honest I'd just be happy to see her make it back in the top 100 again, what is her ranking these days, about 140 odd?

So much about tennis is mental, and frankly its been such a long time since she had any confidence it seems - almost wish she'd spend a whole year playing ITF's (with the exemption of GS qualies). Just to get that winning feel back. Heck that or become a dredded doubles specialist
