3 Canadians at the Sony Ericsson Open

Posted Mar 18th, 2007 at 02:40 PM by gocanadago
We will have 3 Canadians playing at Tier I this week and it's not at the Rogers Cup but at the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscane. Aleksandra Wozniak is the only one of the three girls who will get directly to the main draw as she was awarded a WC by the organizers of the tourney. Stephanie Dubois has a tough begining of season but she keeps her positive attitude, the game is there in training sessions but she seems to be scared doing the same thing during matches and it cost her big points but let's hope this week she'll get through qualies and play tennis like we know she can do it. The last and third Canadian to be in the qualies is Marie-Ève Pelletier, I'm so happy for her, I hope she will get a good draw and finally come back of that 2 years slump since she was injured. Marie had to get through pre-qualifications to get a WCQ to get to that qualie draw. In the final round of the pre-qualies Mara overcame Urzsula Radwanska in two sets of 6/3 7/5, I cross my fingers and hope Mara gets the best draw she can and finally gets some decent results and it boosts her confidence and that she comebacks the player she really is :D.

Will Wozniak be in the top 100 next week?

Posted Oct 5th, 2006 at 01:24 AM by gocanadago
Aleksandra Wozniak made a very great performance last week, winning Ashland challenger tournament, beating Laura Granville in semi final and coming back from 1/5 in the second set of the final to win it 7/6. This week Week Wozniak plays in Troy and has a lot of points to defend, around 25 ad will need a final top be in get into the top 100. Wozniak passed the first round ou Troy in two sets of 6/3 7/6 against Leanne Baker and will now face Tiffany Dabek.

Wozniak beat Kutuzova

Posted Aug 4th, 2006 at 08:21 PM by gocanadago
Yesterday, Aleksandra beat Viktoriya Kutuzova, it was the second meetting of their career. In their first meeting, last year, Kutuzova beat Wozniak 7/6(3) 6/2 on clay. Wozniak was very confident during this match, that she won 6/1 7/6(5). Aleksandra is on a good streak of win presently, she won her ninth match in arrow. In these nine matches, she beat the number 33 in the world Gisela Dulko. I wish she will be able to beat Chin-Wei Chan today!
