With just two rounds of play complete at Indian Wells, not many stories have really cropped up yet, besides the normal idiocy of Justin Gimelstob and the exceptional greatness of Chanda Rubin. So, having seen very little of the event this week, I thought I would take a look at the upsets of seeds that have happened so far and break them down. Here we go:

1) Voskoboeva d. [22] Krajicek 6-3 6-3
Expected. Krajicek is just coming back from injury lay-off and is predictably rusty...

The dismal state of American tennis is on display week after week on the WTA Tour, but this week actually provided a reason for excitement for those patriotic American fans. As a side note, I have noticed that Americans, more so than any other country, do not feel any sort of obligation to root for the players from their country. Is the reason because we have always had so many players to choose from? Or because national athletic pride has never really been fostered here unless it is during the...

Elena Dementieva took the Dubai title this week, bringing her back into the top ten, and adding another chapter to the ridiculous roller coaster of her career. I love Elena, and the board this week made it clear that Elena is one of the most popular players on tour. So it begs the question: what makes Elena Dementieva so irresistible?

1) The serve: Her biggest downfall is the most compelling part of her game. We all know that with a solid serve she could consistently be one of...

The major story this week in Doha has been the horrendous wind that has affected all players. I welcome this. Many fans have been crying foul over the weather conditions because they have caused a number of upsets, but everyone was playing in the same conditions and some players could not meet the challenge. These “upsets” were not huge shocks either. Anyone who has seen Chakvetadze, Venus, and Kuznetsova play so far this year would agree that they are susceptible to upset with the current level...

Antwerp is the week that separates the true ridiculous fans from those merely interested in the game. Those of us who can truly call ourselves obsessed with women’s tennis are more than happy to wait out this week, watching globs of failure batted across the net by yet more players not living up to their potential or cracking under the barely present pressure, because we know that something better is coming. And something better always does come. We saw it in the masterful weeks of tennis that...
