Russian prediction contest: DEADLINE SUNDAY, JAN 18 at 5pm EST (New York time)

Now, the AUS Open draw has been released. Feel free anytime until the deadline to post and change your predictions for Russian girls (just be realistic with what you expect from our girls  ). REMEMBER: if you have QF, SF, F, or W in your predictions and you get it right, your points would be doubled! I will post the names for winner, finalist, etc. who have the points from the highest to lowest after Russian girls are no longer in the draw. I will post my predictions (in order based on the draw) after the qualifers are placed in the main draw.

Roll up your sleeves and focus! Enjoy the fun, the fans! :bounce:

Hi Sharky Sue! :wavey: :hearts:

1st Quarter:

Kuznetsova - 4th round
Zvonareva - QF - Vera has a nice draw.

2nd Quarter:

Bovina - QF - Lena could go a long way if she's playing well.
Petrova - 4th round
Jidkova - 2nd round
Dementieva - SF - Anything less than a semifinal would be dissapointing.

3rd Quarter:

Panova - 2nd round
Krasnoroutskaya- 1st round - Sprem is prepared and match tough.
Douchevina - 1st round

4th Quarter:

Myskina - 3rd round - Will feel the power of Maria Sharapova her bigger, stronger and younger Russina rival in the third round. And the nerves will get to Nastya, too.
Sharapova - SF - Kim Clijsters likely withdrawal opens up Maria's quarter of the draw.
Likhovsteva - 2nd round
Safina - 2nd

the cat u do not make any sense ... u place both petrova and bovina in the quarters in the 2nd quarter of the draw .... but if they are there than how can dementieva be in the semifinal.... because the winner of those 2 (bovina-petrova) quarter will be in the semi... and are u forgetting that mauresmo is in that quarter.... and again u put petrova in the quarter and dementieva in the semi, when those two would potentially meet in the 4th round... i think u just didn't look at the draw yet... anyway i always thought u were smart and was always destraught to here ur demeaning comments about my elena(dementieva) but now i see that ur knowledge of tennis is almost nil and i can reject any statement that u have ever made ... thank you for the peace of mind that ur commments r meaningless!
this might be too harsh, but i find u rude to dementieva and i hate that :fiery:

Thank you, GL. I do want Elena to do well. I feel she has the ability to win a grand slam singles title in her career. And I very badly want Elena to won a grand slam singles title. :D

kodeRED, your harsh comments about me make me feel blue. It was late at night when I posted my predictions. And I was half asleep. I saw my friend Sharky's Russian Roulette 2004 Australian Open predictions contest thread with no replies and I replied to the thread because I knew I wouldn't be able to post again until friday night and I didn't want Sharky's thread to go unanswered so I replied when late thursday night when I should have waited until tonight, friday night.

kodeRED, I had no idea you felt this way about me. :( I've been an Elena Dementieva fan since she was a junior. :) And she's still tied for being my favorite tennis player along with Maria Sharapova. I know I'm sometimes critical of Elena. But that's because she has a lot of potential and I think she can be a better tennis player than she is. I've been critical of Anna Kournikova, too. And she's a long time favorite of mine. If the time comes for me to be critical of Maria Sharapova I will be. But being critical of these tennis players doesn't mean I don't like them as much as I always have, because I do. Being critical of Elena for example where her coaching situation is concerned, is not being rude to her. I would like you to tell me how I've been rude to Elena who I like so much. I nicknamed lovely Elena "The Darling One" a couple of years ago for a very good reason.

hello cat, i'm sorry that i made u blue but i was very upset that u said that anything less than a semifinal would be a dissappointment... elena is a wonderful player who i agree has more potential than her ranking and serve (hehe) would suggest and i also think that her lack of a real coach is a wrong move ... but i truly feel that positive encouragement would be better tempered to this situation ... the problem was that when i think of u i think of all the sorta unpleasant comments u make about elena and not the many good ones u do(and the bad ones i know are just because u want a lot for her) so i overreacted... i didn't know that she was ur favorite player(tied with maria that is)... well i guess that settles it. Keep up the encouragement for our girl... can hardly wait to see her win her first major! ciao

No catfights between the cat and kodeRED

This is supposed to be fun. I hope you have your respect for anyone's predictions.

Updated on my predictions. If Davenport and/or Clijsters withdraws before the matches start, I will change my predictions.

Thanks for understanding, kodeRED. :) Sometimes I forget that I sound negative. I want Elena to do so well that I become frustrated by her play. I know I shouldn't react like that but I think Elena has a tremendous physique and the God given ability to be a top 5 player and I want her to become a top 5 player. I hold Elena to a very high standard. But maybe I shouldn't do that. Then I wouldn't get my hopes up. Maybe I should just be happy Elena is a top ten player who is having a fine career. But I think she can do even better than she has. If Elena makes the semifinals of Oz it will be a great achievement. :D But I think she can do it. I want her to atleast make a grand slam semifinal this year. And the 2004 Australian Open is a golden opportunity for Elena to do well. All the withdrawals has opened things up for players like Elena. Udachi Elena! :bounce:

Sharky, you and I have both Maria Sharapova making the semifinals. :D :bounce:

HI Cat! :wavey:

Yes, I realize that but it wasn't because of your picks for Maria Sharapova. It's because I have so much confidence booster for Maria. She took everyone by a big surprise when she made into the junior AO finals. I was shocked but was full of joy! I hope she can do that again in the big one unlike last year but two years ago!! :) I am a risky player like I am with stock market! ;)

I'll do better for this major... it's really easy to win. Just follow your mind (realizing the Russian girls will do nothing), rather then your heart (hoping the Russinas reach their "potential").

1st Quarter:
Svetlana Kuznetsova - 3rd round
(Her good play at Gold Coast seems to show she's getting back in form... plus, her section is really weak. Cat, you think Sveta is going to beat Christine? Meep.)

Bepa Zvonareva - 3rd round
(I think Bepa will go down to Meghann again... :()

2nd Quarter:

Elena Bovina - 1st round
(Lena's mind is scattered, she's lost too much weight, and Kleinova is another Cervanova. Sadly, I think Lena is going to plummet down the rankings when indoor season comes along. I'm her biggest fan... but I'm realistic. :()

Nadya Petrova - Quarterfinals
(Elena and Nastya may have the big titles... but I still think Nadya is going to be the best Russina in 2004.)

Alina Jidkova - 2nd round
(I'll give her the win over Qualifier. :) Good to see Alinka getting a great chance at a GS MD win. :))

Elena Dementieva - 4th round
(Nadya will get revenge for her loss in Zurich. Asagoe could be trouble in R3... but I think she'll get by.)

3rd Quarter:

Tatiana Panova - 1st round
(Ai's just playing too well... and little Tati doesn't have the type of game to trouble Ai at all.)

Lina Krasnoroutskaya - 1st round
(I'm predicting Lina to have another crappy match, much like she did at US Open. :( I know K-Lina hasn't proved anything beyond little Tier III clay tournies... but Lina will find a way to lose this...)

Vera Douchevina - 2nd round
(I still don't know what Eggy sees in her... but I think she'll get by Zheng, for no reason really.)

4th Quarter:

Anastasia Myskina - 4th round
(She'll beat Masha in 3 sets... which will upset all her adoring fans. :( Rubin or Schiavone will take her out then.)

Maria Sharapova - 3rd round
(First 2 matches are pathetic... then Nastya will squeak by her.)

Elena Likhovtseva - 2nd round
(Frannie will be too much...)

Dinara Safina - 3rd round
(Benefactor of a great draw... and a seed in Coetzer, who can easily EASILY be overpowered at this point in her career. IMO, doesn't deserve the Top 40 ranking she'll be getting... because she makes Bovina look nimble... but whatever.)

Hi Sharky Sue! :wavey: I think Maria really likes Australia and is comfortable there. But she has a very tough draw. I think making it to the second week would be a fine achievement for Maria. :) And I expect her to do so.

Keith, what are you talking about? Christine who? Sveta is playing Shenay Perry in the first round. There isn't even a Christine in her quarter of the draw.

But you make a pertinent point about hoe fans of the Russina's tend to go with their hearts instead of their minds when it comes to judging the Russina's. Many of us have been guilty of that.

Udachi Lena!

That was when Lena was playing the best tennis of her career, at the end of 2002. Amelie just came off her win in Montreal... but Amelie's probably playing even better now. If Lena somehow manages to get to the 4th round (which I'm 90% sure she won't... she better hope Kleinova and Molik/Hantuchova play terribly)... Amelie will wipe her in 2 sets.

Yes, but Myriam couldn't control enough points... and Amelie made a bunch of errors, she had poor timing that day.

If Lena gets to the Mauresmo match, the winner plays Elena or Nadia in the quarters.
Tell me that's not the greatest draw Lena can have.
The semis are on her racket. It's hers if she can be consistent.

GL, stop being so optimistic. Lena is struggling now.

The better draw would be being in Kim or Venus quarter... since there's a decent chance that they could withdraw.

Sue, where are the results?

Eggy hit my head with a red brick big time  and decided not to bother with the results. I think no one wants to play this kind of contest again unless if everyone wants to have a vote that they want to play again for the next RG contest. If that's the case, I would post the final results of AO contest. No offense, Eggy made me sad because I thought it was a lot of fun and entertaining. We had no problems with the US Open contest. Too bad.

Take it easy, Sue. It was all emotions from Eggy.. There is no sign that we are jinxing our girls. They are not performing any better or any worse depending on whether we play or not. The game is fun.

You will never know if you won or not.
And Sharky started a Nastya bashing thread in GM a short while ago.

If you start a contest, you should finish it.
And not blame TBE for something. He did nothing, btw.

When will posters learn that Eggy is not the know-it-all, end-all-be-all of this board?

The majority of the time he's talking straight out of the poop chute.

I understood that it was all emotions from Eggy. It was all emotions from me as well when Eggy said that this contest should be banned. I was shocked and taking it personally. Eggy is a nice friend to me as it's always been. This contest had nothing to do with jinxing our Russian girls. Eggy felt it that way. YS, I agree with your statment.

I will post the final results soon after I finished the calculations if that makes some of you happy. :) Thank you for your patience.

A few differences:

1) Tennis is my form of employment. Don't ask what that is.

2) I don't "brag" to fellow posters about how I knew all my life, worked with, coached, slept with, <insert Russian player>.

I've proven time after time that I am the epitome of tennis knowledge on this board. Don't question it with your silliness.

Go post more bad english in Non-Tennis with the usual morons.

Keep the contests coming, Sue. You are the best! :D  :worship: I like playing them. Maybe you should start contests for Tier 1 tournaments, too.

Sue, I think some people are just upset that the Russina's did so poorly in Oz. :( But don't let that effect your decision to start these contests in the future. I did badly with the Oz contest but I want to play again. You are the creator and originator of this game, Sue. Thus the decision is up to you.

You are keeping all of us in suspense for the results... I am curious to know how bad I scored against my predictions :o
