View Full Version : Cheering thread for Magüi Serna!

Jan 12th, 2004, 04:28 PM
After a terrible week in Sydney, I hope that Magüi has a succesful time in Melbourne, where she'll be seeded, but I don't know which seed yet, let's wait to see if there are more withdrawals because there are many injuries

Vamos Magui!!!!!

Jan 13th, 2004, 10:47 AM
Good Luck Magui :D

I think that at the moment she will be the 17th seed, so only 1 more person above her to pull out and Magui will have a 'proper' seeding

Jan 14th, 2004, 10:05 AM
With the confirmed withdrawals of Serena,Capriati and Dokic Magüi secures the 16th seed

Jan 14th, 2004, 10:09 AM
Wow!!! Vamos Magui!!! :bounce:

Jan 14th, 2004, 02:04 PM
#16 wow :)

Vamos Magüi!!

Good luck with the draw!!

Jan 16th, 2004, 06:30 AM
The draw has been released and this is Magüi's section:

Daniilidou (19)-Qualifier
Qualifier-Serna (16)

I have a mixed feeling with this draw. If Magüi is fit enough, she can beat any of the players I've mentioned here (although she has never beaten Schett so far), but on the other hand, some players of this section are dangerous and can surprise.

But I think Magüi can do well here (we have to wait to see who the qualifier is)

¡¡VAMOS!! :):):)

Jan 16th, 2004, 07:51 AM
Well, anything less than 3rd round with that draw will be bad, so no :banghead: Magui, improve on last years defeat to Fernandez in R2 ;)

Jan 16th, 2004, 08:51 AM
Well, she definately can make 3rd or 4th round with that draw, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. ;)

Best of luck! Vamos Magui!! :)

Jan 16th, 2004, 02:44 PM
Any qualifier apart from; Strycova, Bammer or Groenefeld ;)

Jan 16th, 2004, 05:03 PM
Don't forget Vinci!. She's a great LRWTT player ;)

Jan 16th, 2004, 11:00 PM
Vamos Magui!! :bounce: :bounce:

Jan 17th, 2004, 05:25 PM
Lucky we don't get Strycova, but Mara Santangelo from Italy. Can't Magüi not beat her, her ranking and seeding is too high! ;) She plays Sunday night European time.

Vamos Magüi!! :)

btw, Who will Magüi play with in doubles? (If she plays)

Jan 18th, 2004, 01:27 PM

Come on Magui!! Get better in the next tourneys please.

(This loss sadly reminds me of Us Open 98)

Jan 19th, 2004, 05:25 AM

Still doubles left, although I'm afraid this tournament will finish as soon as the first doubles round is played ;)

Vamos people! ;)

Jan 19th, 2004, 01:54 PM
OK, I am actually shocked.....and I *saw* her lose to Amanda Janes!!!

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead::banghead::banghead:If Magui lost to Amanda Janes on any other surface expect grass I would be shocked ;) But losing to Santangelo on any surface other than clay is digusting!!! (and on clay magui should be winning easily)
Magui, be ashamed :o

P.S Try a different colour for next time ;)

Jan 19th, 2004, 02:19 PM
Poor Magüi must feel too bad after this defeat, so she shouldn't be ashamed also, everyone wants to win! ;) (and I thought that the problems would come in round 2...)

We have to study a new strategy for next tournament, no more defeats like this, please!! ;)

BTW, this was the only GS where Magüi had never lost in the first round...till today (there wer two statistics here, she had never lost here in 1r, and it's the only GS where she hasn't reached the 4 r, I was hoping she could get the last thing, but I was more than wrong ;))

Jan 19th, 2004, 05:22 PM
   Magui!

I just saw the result now and can't believe it

Good luck in the doubles Magui, and good luck for the rest of this year. It can only get better ;)

Jan 19th, 2004, 05:27 PM
Don't be too hard on Magui folks.

Mara is a very talented youngster and is just coming into her own. I saw her at the US Open last year and this girl has talent and nerve.

Both players had more winners than errors so it had to be a well played match. I was following it on the AO scoreboard and there were lots of deuce games.

Magui will rebound. :wavey:

Jan 20th, 2004, 10:04 AM
Thanks GoSandrine! ;). Yeah, all peaople in this thread are a litlle bit down because we expected much more of this tournament, but tennis is tennis ;)

It isn't over....yet ;). Magüi and Stephanie (both out of the singles tournament) will play tomorrow in doubles. I don't expect a miracle, I hope for a decent result (seeing the result last week) ;). Anyway, good luck, girls!!

Jan 21st, 2004, 06:42 AM
Defeat in doubles, 3-6 3-6, (the only good thing, next year cant be worse ;))

And what a surprise, Magüi plays in mixed doubles! (the second time she plays if I remember well, once at Wimbledon) (in fact I had updated my site mentioning the next tournament when I saw the draw by chance ;))

BTW; Santangelo won again

Jan 23rd, 2004, 06:33 AM
Magüi plays in mixed doubles tomorrow (although maybe nobody has interest on this ;))

And Santangelo won again...

Jan 23rd, 2004, 01:29 PM
I care alittle about mixed, Good Luck Magüi and Mark :) (who's that guy?) ;)

yes, Sangangelo continue her run.

Jan 23rd, 2004, 04:11 PM
I cared nothing about mixed, but this time I'll have to check scores :p

Peter and I were checking, Mark is from Bahamas, born in 1972 and top 40 in doubles ;)

Jan 24th, 2004, 01:33 AM
Well, I've just got back from a party and Magui is playing as I type, but since it's only 2-2 in the first set, I think I'll wait to find out the result later in the morning! ;)

Best of luck to Magui for the rest of the match! It would be nice if she could win at least one match here!! ;)

Jan 24th, 2004, 12:41 PM
Magui & Mark lost 6-3 4-6 7-6(8) :banghead:
