Q-Final

Sugiyama d Maleeva 4-6 7-6 6-3

This was a very exciting match and very long. It was really close and had lots of long rallies. Sugiyama lead in the first set 4-2 and looked like she had it under control but Maleeva won the next four points (Sugiyama’s serve started to go off) The second set was close and at 5-4, 0-30 to Maleeva it looked like she was going to take out the match but Sugiyama upped the pace and won the second set in a tiebreak. Maleeva looked like she was going to collapse and called the trainer, had she not of gotten heat exhortation she may have won.

Stosur d Serna 7-6 7-5

Well the crowed was defiantly on Stosur’s side she served for the first set at 5-3 but Serna came back and forced the tiebreak. Stosur played an excellent tiebreak (huge serves) The second set was close but Stosur served to well.

Dechy d Kuznetsova 7-6 6-4

Kuznetsova has a huge serve and is pretty powerful. The first set was really should have gone to Kuznetsova, she served for it a 6-5 and had about four set points but Dechy came from behind and won it in a tie break. Dechy broke Kuznetsova’s serve first game second set and from then on the seconf set remained close.

Petrova d Safina 6-1 6-4

Petrova had a huge serve and just played way to good. The first set was just a white wash, Petrova was hitting winners from all over the court! Safina has a very good backhand but her forehand was a bit rusty. During the second set Safina through her racket and hit a line’s girl in the head. She also was ordering the ball boys and girls around.

Sugiyama d Stosur 7-5 3-6 6-3

This was a very sad match. Sugiyama fight very had to get back into the match. Stosur served for the first set at 5-3 and she got a bit tight. Her backhand was letting her down a little. The second set Stosur had a couple of set points on the Sugiyama serve at 5-2 but had to serve out the set. Every time Sam won a point a crowd went crazy so you can imagine what happened when she won a set. Stosur started the third set positively hitting winners and out hitting Sugiyama. But Sugiyama wouldn’t be top 10 if she couldn’t get herself out of trouble 4 out of the next games went to 40-40. On the last six points Stosur made 5 unforced errors with Sugiyama hitting a winning volley on match point.

Petrova d Dechy 7-6 6-4

This was really good the first set took about 1hr. Anyone could have won this match. Petrova was down 4-1 in the second set back and it was 4-4 then she broke Dechy’s serve and served for the match. The empire in this match over ruled so many shots. At one point Dechy told him to take a lines men and women of court and he might as well watch the whole court himself.

Final

Sugiyama d Petrova 1-6 6-1 6-4

What a weird match! Petrova came out of the blocks really quickly and out hit Sugiyama to lead 5-0 in the first set then Sugiyama held serve and Petrova served out the first set. Then suddenly it was Sugiyama’s turn she ran down every ball and lead 5-0 until Petrova held serve and lead 15-40 on Sugiyama’s serve. It looked like she was crawling back into the match but Sugiyama managed to hold serve and win the second set. It was hot so Sugiyama wanted to take the 10min break but Petrova didn’t want to have to. The third set looked like it was going to be a white wash as well, Petrova looked sure to win her first title leading 4-1 but Sugiyama like in her other matches dug herself out of the hole. She managed to hold serve and break back the momentum had changed. Petrova still leading 4-3 (on serve) called for the trainer. She left the court and there was a rumor that she had a needle. Sugiyama held serve and after a long serves game finally broke Petrova to lead 5-4 (serving for the match) Petrova looked like she was going to take it to 5all but Sugiyama ran every ball down and wore Petrova down.
