...please start picking up your game Sweetie.

Hoping Rita can return to the terrific form she exhibited in 2002 when she had Jennifer on the ropes in Oz and almost sliced and diced her way to victory.

Please post 2004 results here. Thanks! :wavey:

The good form that Rita usually produces in Australia just hasn't happened this year :( sadly she has lost in the 1st rd of the Aussie Open to Jill Craybas 2-6 1-6. Come on Rita your fans are behind you, you need to believe in yourself and then you will return to winning ways and the form you showed in 2001 :)

CJ1, I wish it were that simple...

Losing by that scoreline in the first round to Jill is inexcusable. No offense to Jill but Rita should have at least been competitive. She's starting to lose to players ranked at her level and below which is a major cause for concern so I'm beginning to think Rita is losing her drive.

I love Rita and will continue to cheer her on with all I have in hopes she can turn things around but I'm beginning to wonder if she has the ambition to get to that 2001 level again.

I'd appreciate others' thoughts on this. Thanks! :wavey:

Don't panic Rita will be back on form soon, she's looking forward to the clay court season.
She's had a tough start to the season as she was injured during the winter and therefore couldn't practice. She has also changed racket brands to Babolat this year and is adjusting to that. ;)

Rita is having a tough time this year, she's struggling with confidence and she needs her fan's support more than ever. Her form will pick up soon I'm sure, she just needs a bit of luck with a tournament draw, then once she's won a few matches she'll be ok again.

It wasn't through choice she changed rackets, it was due to her serious injury, she'd been with Yonex for years so it's going to take time to adjust.

Hoi everybody :wavey: sorry i cannot post much recently...work is killing me...but I always support (and suffer  ) for the italians, including Rita, that is giving me the biggest headaches this year...

Hope she can pick up her game a little and go up in the rankings, if she falls out of the top 100 I have a feeling she will retire...she has been on the tour for over a decade, though she is still quite young. It kills me to see her losing so easily to players she should beat with her eyes closed

Another tough loss to Cara.

But Rita did win a match in the Plate event in Eastbourne today 6-3, 6-3 over American Teryn Ashley. Hopefully that will give her some confidence heading to Wimbledon.

Rita's walking a tightrope and in danger of falling out of the Top 100 unless she can win a couple matches at Wimby.

Keep the faith. Go Rita!!! :hearts:

here is an article from local newspaper " Il Mattino"

The official news is that Rita will play New Haven, the US Open, then in the Slovenia Open in mid September before deciding her future and whether she will play next year. Although she does not have the pain in her elbow, she doens't know if it's strong enough to play week in week out in order to improve her ranking enough to get into main draws, therefore she may retire at the end of the year. I will let you know as soon as I hear any more news. :wavey:

I saw the match. This was a great opportunity for Rita to win. Pastikova was for the taking but Rita played very defensively and Pastikova, to her credit, came up with just enough in the end to pull it out.

CJ1, I hope you're wrong about Rita retiring. Hopefully her health will hold up and she'll decide to give it another run in 2006. Rita, please don't leave us. :sobbing:

The question I have is how long does Rita have her protected ranking? Will she be able to play the next three slams with it if she decides to continue?

Sep 2nd, 2005, 01:42 PM
Thanks for the update GoSandrine, I hope she does gain encouragement from her performances in both the singles & doubles at the US Open and continues in 2006. However I did read an interview of her's where she said she thinks she's played in her final Grand Slam tournament, 2 weeks ago she said that she'll make a final decision about her future after playing in the Slovenia Open later this month. Her protected ranking is valid for 8 tournaments.

Great news, there still is hope. She needs to win some matches for confidence and belief and then maybe she will continue in 2006. I feel if she was going to retire at the end of 2005 then there's no point in her playing in a Challenger, therefore I think she really wants to try and come back.

Great news! :D

Maybe playing in a few challengers will allow Rita to gain confidence and pick up some points in the process.

I fear she won't have any wild cards for next year's Slams though. :awww: :(

Rita lost 1-6 4-6 but afterwards she said:

"I come from hard court of french team championship, where I lost in final; I restart to train on clay only yesterday and today at the beginning I can't litterally find the ball... The pain at the elbow seems definitevely gone away: now I continue to train on the clay to prepare next indoor events".

So the good news is she does appear to want to try and rebuild her career :bounce:

Thanks CJ.

Too bad about the loss but encouraging news about her shoulder. She seems in good spirits and ready to put the work in so that's something to hold our hat on. :)
