Well. I realy hope that this will be her year. The end of 2003 was great for Shahar :D

She will start 2004 in the Australian Hardcourt Junior Championships, and then she will play in the Australian Open Junior Championships.

Good luck girl

When is she slated for army service? And will she be able to work out one of those deals where she can get time off to compete?

As far as I know, Anna did not work out any deal. I think Harel Levy was able to spend a lot of time off base playing tennis.

[13]Shahar Peer ISR vs wc-Sophie Ferguson AUS 36 61 61 :D :worship:

http://www.itftennis.com/shared/medialibrary/image/gallery/IO_2401_gallery.JPG

Thirteenth seed Shahar Peer (ISR) scored the day’s most emphatic win, beating poor Olivia Lukaszewicz of Australia 6-0, 6-0. Lukaszewicz also lost by the same scoreline to Justine Henin-Hardenne in the main draw.

Peer plays another Australian, Sophie Ferguson next. Ferguson beat her friend and sometime training partner Julianne Welford 6-2, 6-3.

“In some ways it’s easier to play another Australian and in other ways it’s harder,” said Ferguson. “It’s always hard to play a friend. Julianne and I come from different states but we still know each other pretty well and it was strange to see her on the other side of the net. In some ways it can be an advantage though, because I did know her game.”

Ferguson is also friendly with Lukaszewicz, and pledged to ask for advice on what she can expect from Peer when they play.

who is Neha Uberoi from USA?? :scared:
she won the Miami Juniors this year, what was a tournament where the 12 best juniors in the world played. Neha deafeted in the final Nicole Vaidisova (Shahar's biggest rival) very easily 6:2 6:4. Shahar lost in the semis to Nicole.

From Wimbledon website:

Peer Feels No Pressure

Monday, June 28, 2004http://www.wimbledon.org/images/misc/trans.gifhttp://www.wimbledon.org/images/misc/trans.gif
Israel's Shahar Peer powered to the second round of the Girls' Singles in a 6-3, 6-2 straight sets victory over Russia's Regina Koulikova today.

Fourth seed Peer faced no difficulty in ousting her Russian rival. This is her 17th singles win so far this year, having already won the Australian junior championship. Also a former 14 & Under Orange Bowl title holder, she played fairly simple but versatile tennis on the grass court, which is clearly not her preferred surface. However, her skill was too much for Koulikova.

Peer served hard and stuck to a baseline game. She indulged her opponent in long rallies before scoring repeatedly with down-the-line shots. She kept impressing with her double-handed backhand and showed prudence in charging to the net only when it was required.

Koulikova conceded easy points and was broken consecutively in the first set. She was down 5-1 but made a brief recovery when she broke Peer to increase her tally of points from one to three.

Koulikova's renewed vigour alerted Peer. She switched to an attacking game and took the set by 6-3.

She maintained the aggressive tempo and broke Koulikova in the third game of the second set, taking a 2-1 lead. Another long rally and the Russian seemed to be exhausted. She held on to her serve just once more and was broken regularly by her rival, who took the set and match with ease.

A Peer-fect Performance Tuesday, June 29, 2004http://www.wimbledon.org/images/misc/trans.gifhttp://www.wimbledon.org/images/misc/trans.gif

Shahar Peer was out on court nine today demonstrating that she is good enough to win the girls' singles title, confidently defeating the promising Neha Uberoi 6-3, 6-2.

Her opponent, Neha Uberoi from America, also impressed the court nine crowds as a barrage of fast flying forehands, sonic serves and big backhands from both girls were hit with even greater ferocity then the boys' match next door on court eight.

During the first few games, it seemed as though the match could evolve into a mini classic, as both players looked for an opportunity to exploit a weakness in their opponent's game.

Shahar Peer's movement was exceptional and the quality of her shots superb. As the set progressed, the Israeli emerged the stronger player, striking the ball consistantly near the lines and frustrating the American with her unforgiving shot selection. Uberoi, a power player herself, was also forced to defend deep behind the baseline chasing Peer's strong first serves and almost equally quick second serves.

The game remained finely balanced at 3-3 but a good spell of precise groundstroke winners and attacking returns put Uberoi on the wrong side of 5-3 and serving to stay in the set. However, Peer broke her to take the first set and from then on took control of the match.

Although a bright start from Uberoi in the second set allowed her to break Peer, the Israeli then broke back immediately. Peer closed out the match with some fine tennis in the second set to book her place in the third round.

Fourth seed Israeli Peer was simply too good for Agnes Szatmari of Romania, beating her in just over an hour and in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

As her heroine Jennifer Capriati bowed out of the Ladies' Singles today after being beaten by Serena Williams, 17-year-old Shahar Peer eased her way through to the girls' singles quarter-finals. Already this year Peer has won the Australian Open Juniors, and reached the quarter-finals of the French Open.

On the other hand Szatmari, also 17, went out in the first round of the French Open and she has done well to reach the third round here at Wimbledon.

Szatmari opened the serving and was broken immediately by the more superior Peer. Szatmari kept her second service game, which was the only game she held in the set. Two double faults in her third gifted the game to Peer.

The second set was a little more eventful. By far the longest game was Peer's second service game, in which she needed eight game points before finally closing it out. She was though, simply too good for her opponent. Peer moves on to meet 6th seed Katerina Bondarenko in the quarter-finals.

I'm realy happy for Shahar, this is her first ever Grand Slam

PEER, Shahar ISR vs NAKAMURA, Aiko JPN
ANI, Maret EST vs NOONI, Hanna SWE
ROUSSEAU, Capucine FRA vs [32] PASTIKOVA, Michaela CZE

I think that this the best draw Shahar could get here, so I realy realy hope she will do well.

Now Tzipi's draw:

[8] DOMACHOWSKA, Marta POL vs (W) REMYNSE, Andrea USA
NEMETH, Virag HUN vs POPADIC, Lana CRO
POUTCHEK, Tatiana BLR vs DOMINIKOVIC, Evie AUS

Saw this match...Shahar is really fiesty and she never got down on herself...she just kept on fighting. She has a really nice BH, she gets very low to the ground and can create angles off it very well. Her game needs alot of work, but time will tell. She is not as aggressive as she should be and she really needs to work on her serve. She is very smart, she served and volleyed and really used the court to her advantage. Nakamura was so exhausted at the end and Shahar ran her all over the court...it was an awesome match and everyone was sad that one of them had to lose.

The draw looks better now for Shahar in the first 2 rounds, but the 3rd round looks realy hard. If she will win her first 2 match's then any one of this 3 players could be a problem:

Mariana Diaz-Oliva (I think the bigest problem)
Abigail Spears (let's hope she is tired).
Mi-Ra Jeon (A good player, but It's the better out of the 3).

Anyway, let's take one step at a time - good luck Shahar in the first round

She played well today. Her backhand is great and nice angled forehand and she really suprised me with the net game she had when she went. (Execpt one smash but it was also quite good)

What will her rank be next week?

Next week she will play in 50K. Hope she won't be tired. MD soon. :)

Oh and she also won the doubles with tzipi :bounce:

Shahar will be ranked around 175 next week! I really hope she does well at the Nationals and the Bergamo challenger, the next few weeks. She really has become one of the top up and comers. She has had a great year and I think that next year is going to be a great one for Shahar. She just has the ability to go soooooo far and do so much for Israeli tennis. I think that she will be top 100 next year and is going to start getting the results that we expect out of her in WTA and Grand Slam events. Good Luck Shahar!!!
She really has become very high on my favorites list.

Everything goes to her favour right now. Bondarenko played a long match. She has doubles match left while Shahar doesn't. Shahar comback from 1-5 and then 6-0 should really give her huge confidence. But it will still be hard.

Good luck Shahar! :)

Wow even a peer thread! *happy*

I believe peer has alot more potential to what she shows recentlish, but i believe that in everyone. I do agree with Kutuzova.

She is our best hope for the future and I can see her overtaking even Obziler to be our next number one. That is ofcouse once the greatest one of all throws in the towel!:p
