This is for soccer fans
Do you think that David Beckham is a playmaker and do you think he is on the level of players like Figo and Zidane?
I ask this because there was doubt 2 years ago about whether England had a playmaker.

I don't think he is a playmaker really.
He is just great at crosses and the Free Kicks.
Love the one gainst Greece

Of course, the free kick against Greece should never have been awarded. :p Then again, it wouldn't have made a difference if the Germans could actually have scored a goal against Finland!

David Beckham isn't fit to lace their boots if you are comparing him with them as central midfielders/playmakers. Figo and Zidane have incredible skill and the former is about as cultured a 2 footed player as there is. Zidane is in a league of his own IMO. Beckham has no left foot, can't beat his man. He is arguably the best crosser in the world, and one of the best free kick specialists, top 3 in the world. But as a playmaker? He's only as good Paul Scholes IMO. His best position is as a wide right midfielder.

Zidane is class, but a dirty bastard on the pitch.
Beckham is not a play maker . Gasgoigne was a playmaker, Joe Cole is a play maker. David Beckham is not.
Beckham does deserve to be up there with him, but his role on the pitch is different to theirs so comparisons are difficult.
But this is the tennis section, so I'l shh now

DAvid Beckham is a bit more than free kicks and crosses.
He's brought dribbliing into his game a bit (although even I can read his dummies ;)), he also closes down pretty well.
No, he's no way in the class of Zidane, and he isn't really a playmaker either. Paul Scholes is a much better playmaker than Beckham imo.

Oh, Danielaiscute: Beckham has no left foot,
is incorrect. Pure and simple.

Beckham is a great crosser, is very dangerous from Free kicks, and most importantly is a big game player, as he showed against Greece.
For England he is an inspiration, and if he moves from Man U I might even like him! :)
Until then, his Unitedness gets in the way.
He is a different type of player to others mentioned...
I always thought Gazza was over-rated...and a thug as well.
The most talented English player of the last decade was....
Matt Le Tissier! If he had played for a more fashionable team, he would have 60 England Caps by now.
