similar same small expectations like last year, when MARLENE kicked CAPRIATI. but german underdogs did well the last years in melbourne:

2000 KANDARR
2001 RITTNER
2002 WEINGÄRTNER
2003 WEINGÄRTNER, BARNA

let's hope for another nice result in 2004! :D

we will have just 2 girls in Maindraw

Barna and Weingärtner

Schruff
Grönefeld
Rittner
Klösel
Gehrlein
Lamade
Barna
Dübbers

and maybe
Rösch
Bachmann will have to play Qualifiyng

so it will be hard to have a good result from the german girls

my hopes are
Anca can play on her level
Marlene can continue her great AUS-Open Results
Anna-Lena qualify for her first GS Maindraw

Lamade can win 1 match in qualifying ;)

Marlene needs a good draw to defend a few points, the same for Anca. I hope Anna-Lena survives the quali-tournament and will kick some ass down under!

Go girls!

good luck, girls!

oooohhh... I am kind of excited that Marlene Weingartner drew Kim Clijsters!! I hope she can keep up her "giant-killer" image this year, after beating Capriati in the first round last year. Of course, Marlene really needs the points!! Go Marlene! (nothing against Kim - and I hope she doesn't withdraw!)

OK draw for Marlene and Anca:

1st round: Marlene vs. Kim ... or vs. another seed ... or versus a Q/LL

Anca vs. Maureen Drake - win this !!!!! :fiery:

Then Raymond - same as last year.

I personally don't think that Kim will play so Marlene can do ok for a few rounds. Even if Kim does play, if marlene is wise and plays smart tennis she wil beat kim who wont be 100%. I think she can make 3rd round. and lose to the winner of Safina/cotzer (assuming those two win their 1st matches)

Other than her I can see any of our players going too far. Ferrero I think will take out popp and keifer. and I think Escude will take out Schuettler.

the injury trophy ...

1 out of 4 today ...

Diaz-Oliva def. Kloesel 6-3 6-2 not too surprising

Bachmann def. Vinci 2-6 6-2 6-2 :) great win

Prusova def. Grönefeld 6-2 7-6 (3) pretty pathetic
And top-seed Lindsay Lee-Waters has lost too, which means that ALG is only the 2nd LL.

Dulko def. Gehrlein 6-2 5-7 6-4 :(
Good fight, Gehrelin saved MP at 5-3 3rd set, then had 40-15 to level the match but lost the next 4 points.

Anca won :D :woohoo:

But what a struggle :o

She slept during set 1, woke up in set 2. In the 3rd she went down 0-2, up 3-2 and down 3-5, wasting tons of BP's.
Then saved MP on serve at 3-5 and finally broke to 5-5. The last 2 games went fast. :D

I'm so happy. Anca has choked so many times already in Slams - just great that she is on the other side this time. :D

The others - Popp lost, Kiefer playing pathetic .
Anca might be the only German left tonight. :o

Thank god Anca doesn't speak Nürnbergerisch. :tape: ;)

You are right, Anca played on court, and they had a proper camera. But I don't think it's fully equipped with cameras, so I don't think ARD will cover it live, even if it's in their coverage time.
But if they do - I won't complain. :D
