View Full Version : Will Maggie's domination over Venus continue?

Maggie is about the only player other than Serena who owns Venus.
Do you think her domination over Vee will continue or finally Venus will turn it around?
Personally Venus has yet to find a way to beat Maggie and Maggie knows exactly how to beat her. So I expect the next time they face off, we will see the same result we have seen in the past.
Go Maggie!

it's hardly a domination ....

maggie has never beaten venus on a surface other than indoor carpet, and one of her three wins came when venus was still in diapers.

You know what? Maggie automatically brings her A game whenever she sees Venus on the other side of the court. It doesn't matter when she has beaten Venus. With or without diapers, Venus was Venus!

It would be nice to see Maggie beat Venus again...she must have been happy, especially with the win in Moscow last year, where she eventually won...if only I had seen it last year;)

It does matter. A win in 1995 is hardly the same thing as beating Venus in 2002.

And I don't think it's that simple. Indoor surfaces favour Maleeva, and usually Venus isn't so sharp on them. I'm not taking anything away from Maggie, she beat Venus twice indoors over the past couple years and that's very impressive. But she was demolished at the Australian Open by Venus (2002), and again way back in 1998 in Sydney. I do think that the only time Maleeva can be competitive against Venus is indoors. If they play anywhere else, I don't see Maggie coming out the winner.

You've got to laugh that Maleeva has a positive record over Venus - nice one Maggie :yeah: :worship:.

 at calling it domination though.

For whatever reason, a lot of great players had an Achilles' heel. Arthur Ashe had Rod Laver (0-33, that's right, OH AND THIRTY-THREE lifetime). Bjorn Borg had the US Open. Ivan Lendl had Wimbledon. Lindsay Davenport plays great against Venus, but Serena owns her. Jennifer Capriati gives Serena all she can handle, but gets pimp-slapped whenever she plays Venus. Maggie Maleeva just has Venus' number, that's all. There are only three players who don't surprise me when they beat Venus: Serena, Lindsay and Maggie. ;)

when you donīt count their first meeting, you cannot count the meeting in 1998 either, because maggie was playing with some injuries.

didn't say that I didn't count it. Just that it's less impressive.

And in January 1998, Venus had yet to crack the top 20. Apparently Maggie felt she was fit enough to go on the court, and that's good enough for me.

But let the people have their lil fun. You know one or two wins over a Williams can be the sole highlight for some playersīs careers.

So Maggie-fans: here, Maggie "dominates" Venus...she can have that, Venus got the slams anyways.

Not....because Maggie canīt play on NON-indoor surfaces and Venus has two wimbledons and has reached the finals FOUR!! straigth years.

i think the word domimition is too optimistic but it is a fact that magdalena maleeva can beat everyone on a good day. some players are top 10 like dementieva, but they can never beat a williams. magdalena can beat them on grass, too. look on her grass statistics this year. on hardcourt venus is much stronger. clay is very difficult but i think venus is a bit better here.

i doubt they will meet more than one or two times per year because venus wonīt compete enough for that and maggie is not famous for vconsistent quarterfinals.

lol...I think maybe Malleva has a chance if they play indoors....On any other surface, she'll get killed like everytime!

I predict Venus 6-2 6-1 on any surface :D

gogomaggie - Maggie does not and never has "owned" Venus. As much as I like Maggie, I don't think it'll be likely for her to keep presenting a strong challenge to Venus in the near future. Although I think it's v.impressive for Maggie to have managed to scrape three victories, all three of her wins came on carpet. Maggie has yet to prove that she can keep up with Venus on other surfaces.

And Venus almost beat Maggie on their last meeting as well. If I recall correctly that match was in Venus' favour when she lead 5-3 and match point in the third set. So that's hardly a "domination" - more likely, a "choke" on Venus' part.

I predict that Maggie's three wins will be the only ones she can look upon when she retires. I can smell a 9-3 domination in Venus' part ;) Keep in mind, I really like Maggie a lot, so it's nothing against her, but we have to face facts and Venus is ten folds more talented and successful :D

2-2 in h2h record isnt really a "domination" so with regards to the williams', it probably could count as it.

As much as I like Maggie (she's amongst those topping my favorites' list), I don't think she will ever beat Vee again. Even indoors I consider her the underdog and her beating Venus indoors again will be a genuine upset no matter what their h2h may look like. But clearly she knows a way or two to trouble Venus. No doubt about it. She's got a game you can learn so much from as tennis players.

instead of saying maggie can only beat venus on indoors
why dont we say venus can only beat maggie on rebound ace :p

Because Venus has proven she can beat everyone on every surface, where as Maleeva has become to be known as mainly a carpet specialist.

Venus is a Tier II specialist :o

Just like Anna Smash is a tier III speicalist and Henrita Nagyo is for tier IV and Vs. j/k :o

If Venus doesn't have a positive h-2-h record against Maleeva,
it's simply because Maleeva doesn't reach the last rounds in the tournaments !!

of course
Nobody says that Maggie has achieved more than V ( :secret: ) but when these two meet Maggie has big chances of winning simply because Venus like every other player has opponents which are *inconvenient* ...

Go Maggie, beat her once again so that this topic is over :hatoff: :woohoo:

Thatīs the thing....if they would be meeting more regularly on other surfaces, the h2h would be more positive. But Maggie "rarely" survives long enough to meet Venus on other surfaces.

who cares how regularly they meet? She still has a positive h2h against your beloved Vee! and it won't change any time soon!
Maggie will continue to hold the record!

People...Do NOT give this idiot "gogo" a thought...He posts these ridiculous threads out of boredom. He does NOT represent the Maggie fans here...only himself. I am the ultimate Maleeva fan and while I'm pleased that she does well indoors...I do NOT expect much success on hard...maybe grass against Venus. I'm a realist. This piece of shit gogo is a trouble maker and is unrelenting...the best you can do is ignore him.

Cheers!

The only player Maggie "owns" is Rubin.

This is not a bad record, too :yeah:

1998 Sydney 16 Hard (O) M.MALEEVA 6-3 1-6 6-4
1992 US Open 16 Hard (O) M.MALEEVA 7-5 5-7 6-1

1995 Amelia Island 16 Clay (O) M.MALEEVA 2-6 6-3 6-0
1995 Hilton Head 16 Clay (O) M.MALEEVA 6-3 6-2
1994 Chicago SF Carpet (I) C.RUBIN 6-7 0-2 RET
1995 Zurich QF Hard (I) C.RUBIN W/O
2001 Linz QF Hard (I) M.MALEEVA 6-3 6-3
2003 Filderstadt 16 Hard (I) M.MALEEVA 6-3 6-4
