it should be broken down in to the sub-category of best slice and best topspin 1 hander...whY ? It is tough to objectively ascertain which bh of the two is necessarily better

Without a doubt Justine!! I don't really like one-handed backhands but in the whole players who have a one-handed hers is certainly the best one and most beautiful one to see!!!!!!!

Silvia has also a good one

It´s very close between Justine and Amelie, but Justine has won more with it..so Juju.

Nov 22nd, 2003, 12:07 PM
Yeah, but that's for other reasons. Amelie leads Juju in the head-to-head. Amelie! ;)

Or is the head to head now even? I shouldn't rely on memory. :D

JuJu or Anna P. or Amelie
But JuJu's forehand is awesome now and not enough players want to try her backhand so ,I'm not saying she is losing it; but it hasn't HAS good IMO has it was o say Wimby 2001
I think Amelie has the speed but IMO it is not consistent all the time

So my vote went to Anna P.

And I think Emilie Loit has a two handed backhand

One handed.

The question was "technical one handed backhand"

So I think it is Conchi. She doens't have as much power as the top girls, but she can do everything with the ball on her backhand. She can put all kinds of spin on the ball and her backhand almost never breaks down.

Justine ;)

Justine does. And Loit definitely has a two hander. She just goes under the ball a lot from her backhand.

I voted for Alex! :p

If we could include retired players, I would vote for Gaby. Her backhand was beautiful as well as effective. I don't think Justine's is nearly as good in the beauty department though equally effecitve and probably more powerful. In my opinion Gaby's backhand is pre much flawless technique wise whether it's a topspin, slice or flat.

Ah, Starr, Loit has a two-handed backhand!!! She uses the one-handed slice a lot though.

Nov 22nd, 2003, 06:07 PM
Watching her, sometimes you don't notice that Loit has a 2-handed backhand, beacuse she hits a one-handed slice a lot of the time. Her slice is better than Henin's and Mauresmo's one-handed slice. But for drive shots, Loit uses a 2-handed bh.

Martina Hingis: the one she hit at the '99 French Open. Hell, she hit it better than Steffi

Hingis would always hit one handed backhands and left handed forehands, especially if she was on the run for a passing shot. Like every tournament. It was funny when Venus fans made a big stink of Venus' one handed Wimby pass. I was like haha Hingis did that all the time and in fact did that to Venus on that very court.

The single handed backhand Hingis hit against Raymond in Porche Grand Prix 97 (I think) was amazing even though she ended up losing that match.

Interesting to note that Carlos R(an Argentine)
says that he refined Justine's 1-handed backhand to be more like a stylish Gaby Sabatini. What can you say about Juju's 1-handed backhand?
It's the DVD of 1-handed backhands. Bigger, stronger, quicker,
hipper, flashier...

I would put Amelie's second in terms of depth, accuracy, finesse and
craft; but the Farina backhand is more elegant. Remember WIMBLEDON
QF's? Sly Farina's 1-handed and slices were just pure class.

I forgot about Barbara. She really nails a topspin backhand! It's heavy ball with lots of pace. How's she doing these days??

I voted Justine. The first time I saw it, I was dripping wet.

Amelie whines too much, and she's a beast compared to the other girls.

The single handed backhand Hingis hit against Raymond in Porche Grand Prix 97 (I think) was amazing even though she ended up losing that match.
It seems she lost every time she resported to this shot. RG '99, W '00, and that tournament.

Justine, she can hit the flat drive and the topspin shot equally well... Sabatini's was great, too, but she didn't really have a penetrating crosscourt drive--it was just loopy. However, her down-the-line shot was awesome, of course.

Going back quite a few years, a Swede by the name of Catarina Lindqvist had a beautiful one-hander. And so did Hana Mandlikova.
