DANG! Howīs that for confusion?! Tompier Nov 20th, 2003, 06:42 PM MARY FRANCE AMELIE :bounce: MARY :bounce: AMELIE :bounce: FRANCE 2003 FED CUP WINNER jd Nov 20th, 2003, 06:47 PM With Amelie any team could win. bandabou Nov 20th, 2003, 06:54 PM Yep Amelie gives France a chance against most teams. If she had beaten Kim just once this year, she could have been the only player to beat the three no.1īs in the same year!! the cat Nov 20th, 2003, 07:03 PM I want Billie Jean King to surprise eveyone and play the very dangerous Alexandra Stevenson in the singles! :D Alex has a big game and she playes well in the Olympic Stadium in Moscow. Go USA! :bounce: Sonja Nov 20th, 2003, 07:08 PM Bonne chance Team France saki Nov 20th, 2003, 07:59 PM I want Billie Jean King to surprise eveyone and play the very dangerous Alexandra Stevenson in the singles! :D Alex has a big game and she playes well in the Olympic Stadium in Moscow. Go USA! :bounce: Is this sarcasm? I hope so... mishar Nov 20th, 2003, 08:06 PM I think the Cat is onto something. I don't think much of A.S., but Shaughnessy is playing like cr*p and Alex has had very good results at this venue. (She took a set off of Mauresmo last month here) Lindsayfan Nov 20th, 2003, 08:14 PM GOOD LUCK FRANCE,U HAVE TO WIN IT!! Kart Nov 20th, 2003, 08:38 PM Oh Vera won a set did she ? Good for her, when I looked Mary was killing her. Good luck to France in the final :). ttaM Nov 20th, 2003, 08:46 PM go usa! cmasters Nov 20th, 2003, 08:47 PM Is it possible for the U.S. to add Chanda? Also I think Raymond could present problems to Mary indoors. kerbear Nov 20th, 2003, 08:48 PM Oh dear, this doesn't look good at all for the USA. Come on USA!!!! :bounce: :worship: saki Nov 20th, 2003, 08:53 PM I don't think it's as hopeless for the U.S.A as some of you are making out... They are almost certain to win the doubles and then have to win two other rubbers. Both Mauresmo & Pierce have been known to crumble in the face of pressure before, so if Lisa holds her nerve and Shaugnessey gets her act together, they're in with a chance. I still think France is more likely to win and I hope that they will, but it could still be close! CapFan#1 Nov 20th, 2003, 08:54 PM Actually, Mary is a Canadian living in the US playing for France. She must be Dokic's hero   Mrs. Peel Nov 20th, 2003, 08:55 PM To help Meghann BJK should program her to believe that everyone across the net is Venus Williams. bandabou Nov 20th, 2003, 09:00 PM Yep....thatīs the right diagnosis: Meghann it is Venus Williams across the net. Has she done anything since beating Venus at Miami?! ~ The Leopard ~ Nov 20th, 2003, 09:19 PM Allez la France! Unexpected good news from my p.o.v. I thot Russia had too much depth. Don't slow down, Momo. vaiva Nov 20th, 2003, 09:24 PM Bonne chance Team France and especially Amelie! Rocketta Nov 20th, 2003, 09:39 PM   Go USA!!!  ~ The Leopard ~ Nov 20th, 2003, 09:46 PM Maybe BJK can come out of retirement herself and add some depth the US team if Meg is playing that badly. ;) casanovalover Nov 20th, 2003, 10:04 PM i think i would play stevenson as well. shaughnessy was lucky to beat a junior and got easily defeated by a player in her thirties who lost 2 and 1 to raymond the day before. i don't care anyway because i would much rather france win per4ever Nov 20th, 2003, 11:36 PM this will surely attract thousands of people  ITF got their money...they should be proud of it  hey_britney Nov 20th, 2003, 11:58 PM it's not as big of a mismatch as you may think. raymond/nav is a tougher dubs combo than loit/SCA (but not by that much), and lisa and meghann both have decent shots against Pierce. they are a combined 0-5 against amelie .... so really, unless amelie does some harsh choking, it'll come down to what the americans can do against pierce and in doubles. i say france should be favoured 70-30. moon Nov 21st, 2003, 12:06 AM Welll, I'm american, so I'm going with the home team :) Go USA!! when are the matches????????????? ps--has France ever won Fed Cup before? Lapin Nov 21st, 2003, 12:13 AM http://internationalgifservice.ifrance.com/internationalgifservice/web_gifs/drapeaux/drap_france_divers03.gif Allez L'Equipe Franįaise!! http://internationalgifservice.ifrance.com/internationalgifservice/web_gifs/drapeaux/drap_france_divers03.gif skanky~skanketta Nov 21st, 2003, 12:34 AM vera  i cant believe i'm still a fan.:help: but mary :D :yeah: lizchris Nov 21st, 2003, 02:43 AM I am rooting for the US, of course, but I think they would have had a much better chance winning if Venus, Serena, Lindsay, Jennifer or Chanda were on the team, but they can still beat France, but it will be close. Diya Nov 21st, 2003, 02:45 AM Go Mary ! Win it for France :woohoo: Aretha Franklin Nov 21st, 2003, 02:46 AM i hate america. go frogs Aretha Franklin Nov 21st, 2003, 02:47 AM good bless france, my home sweet home. Aretha Franklin Nov 21st, 2003, 03:03 AM How can you have the internet in Somalia ;) :p hhhhooopp Froncaes!!! somaliann tennis is really coming on. we will win the fed cup next year. firefly_ac Nov 21st, 2003, 03:11 AM Allez France! Go Queen of Paris,Mary Pierce! bandabou Nov 21st, 2003, 03:27 AM Still the last "French", the only "Canadian", slam winner: Mary/ie Pierce!! ~ The Leopard ~ Nov 21st, 2003, 06:24 AM We all know that Amelie is sometimes not rock-solid mentally. Still, unless she cracks under pressure or something, she's gonna beat the American girls easily. Mary should win one or both of her matches. If all goes to plan in singles, I wonder whether they might give Amelie/Mary a workout in doubles. Brian Stewart Nov 21st, 2003, 07:38 AM Go USA! All things considered, unless Alex has an injury acting up, it might be a good time for a substitution. Or, if BJ really wants to mess with their heads, she could use... Martina in singles. Think about it. The French players would go from matches they should win, to matches they must win to avoid embarassment (losing to a 47-year-old). The pressure would be enormous. (Although I'd hate to see Momo's psyche messed with.) I wonder who the crowd will root for? saki Nov 21st, 2003, 10:31 AM I was actually just thinking the same as Brian Stewart - that BJK's best option might well be to go with Martina Navratilova in singles. She may not be in practice but even at 47, she's probably a little better than both Stevenson and Shaugnessey are playing right now. And, as he's said, it'd mess with Amelie's head in particular. I think it's unlikely though. mishar Nov 21st, 2003, 12:40 PM It's a fun idea but I think Pierce and Mauresmo are two players who would handle martina's current game pretty easily. I think Mauresmo should win her matches easily, the only possible question mark in my mind is Mary pierce. Lisa Raymond is definitely in with a chance, and Shaughnessey/Steveson has a chance at an upset. Jem Nov 21st, 2003, 12:46 PM Actually, Shaugnessey has a good chance to redeem herself. She won't feel the pressure as much against Pierce and Mauresmo because she'll be the underdog. That's one reason why Shaughnessey and so many other players lurk where they do in the rankings -- they can't win the matches they're supposed to. Ditto for Amelie. She could crack like an egg, as she frequently does when she's a favorite or a match really matters! Go USA! Jem Nov 21st, 2003, 12:50 PM Hey, the above was my 500th post! jlamire Nov 21st, 2003, 01:14 PM Actually, Shaugnessey has a good chance to redeem herself. If it was in France, maybe. Plus her style of game will not suit Meg at all, and she has a 4-0 record against Lisa, including a recent drubbing indoors. But tout c'est possible azza Nov 21st, 2003, 01:32 PM I want Billie Jean King to surprise eveyone and play the very dangerous Alexandra Stevenson in the singles! :D Alex has a big game and she playes well in the Olympic Stadium in Moscow. Of Course they did !!!! In 1997 with Mary, Nathalie, Sandrine...... Mark Spruce Nov 21st, 2003, 03:15 PM GO FRANCE And especillay MARY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! regards Mark ali Nov 21st, 2003, 04:21 PM I think its a testimony to how well Mary is playing and how highly she is regarded that she is seen as the favourite in her matches. She's ranked lower than both Shaugnessy and Raymond so technically should be the underdog. Beating Vera wasn't seen as a major shock either (she's ranked 13!) and even in her match against #7 Myskina people felt that Mary lost the match rather than Myskina winning it. I'm happy to say that it looks like Mary is most definately on her way back! :bounce: Some of her shots in the first set of both matches were unbelievable!! Bероника Nov 21st, 2003, 05:25 PM Allez la France!!!! | |
