It's 6 weeks away... but we'll start cheering for her now.

Bovina's Herd is now one of the premier player forums on this board.

Let us cheer. Let us cheer loud. Our voices will be heard. We will stand tall and proud.

UDACHI, MADEMOISELLE YELENA BOVINA!!!

She is not Leena. I am Leena.

Her regular name is Elena.

Her nickname is Lena, since that what everyone refers her to.

In Russia, her name is pronounced Yelena.

Dementieva referred to her as Alyona.

I believe her full name is Lenochka.

That should confuse you enough.

Before the KC, Elena said she doesn't want to be called Alyona. That's why I use D. and B.

Which Elena?

Elena D. said she prefers Lena.

Too bad for her.

Elena B. is called Lena also.

She'll have to stick with Alyona. :p

I knew that was the official opinion of the Herd. But I'll try to keep both happy if I can.

Dementieva is one of the players Lena will go past in the rankings. I'm not sure if it's 2004 or 2005. But it will happen.

Don't hold your breath on Maria K. She's still far away. She may not have enough power.

If both players had a healthy 2003, and Bovina played 40 tournaments like Alyona does... I believe Bovina would have been the better player.

does lena is actually engaged?

does she started to play wid safin's mother, like almost all ruxxians?

I've seen Maria K. play in person.

She is a very talented player... but she will have to improve on her power. That very well may come... because I doubt she's even begun to fill in yet.

If Lena plays her game, Elena D. doesn't have weapons to hurt her.
And Lena should be able to break that weak second serve.
But she wasn't healthy.
Next year I think Venus will get back in the top 4. And with Mauresmo, Capriati, etc., I just want Lena to get near #10. Then she rocks in 2005.

#1 Cory Ann Fan

Where did you hear she was engaged? It's just funny considering what kind of person Lena is right now... :p

She has no problem with males.

I do admit she wasn't the cutest thing early in her career. She was all elbows and knees. She looks quite fine now.

Nov 20th, 2003, 10:18 PM
well, i asked, not sentenced....

anyway, what kind of person she is right now?? (i'm sorry for too much questions, but im studin ;) lena nowdays...)

goldenlox

She's #21 in the world. If she wants to meet guys, that's not going to be a problem.
It won't be a problem for Sveta, either. They're celebrities.

(I'm not comparing them. Just making a point.)

dubro
Nov 20th, 2003, 10:21 PM
sveta is gorgeous  ... even if #800 on rankin ...

i'm understanding lena have to improve only her mental game 8and serve of course)..

goldenlox
Nov 20th, 2003, 10:22 PM
See, Sveta's gorgeous. And she'll be a millionairess very soon. And she kicked Nag Jr.'s butt.
So will Lena.

Lena is quite the attention whore with how she dresses at times... she's not afraid to show her legs and her butt... :o

Anyway, she did have a boyfriend earlier this year... but they broke up. She might still be available now... but she's very friendly with the guys.

It seems like everyone on the tour believes the more skin showing, the better.
But if that was so important, Iroda would be a huge star.
So I think it's no big deal.

Lena has a lot of areas to improve in...

First, movement wise. Lena has been working so hard about getting quicker around the court. She needs to improve that as much as possible. Speed is the biggest factor in reaching the Top 10... and Lena wasn't blessed with the stroke ability, and hand-eye coordination of a Lindsay Davenport. But, Lena still has the shotmaking ability to get her way up there.

Then, mentally. Lately, especially at US Open... when things aren't going her way, and the match is slipping away from her... she tends to go off in space, and not be able to even keep the ball in the court. Lena gets frustrated easily... and she needs to stop that... because she's always going to make tons of errors with her style.

Her serve isn't good enough for her size... but that will never improve unless she totally revamps her motion. Probably not best to do that in this point of her career.

I don't think Lena does it to be a huge star... I just think that's her personality.

I'm the same way. I'm attractive, and I want to show it. Nothing wrong with that.

Nothing wrong. But you see the juniors copying the clothes, or lack of.
And sun is bad. The players should cover up for health.

Does Lena move as well as Lindsay?

#1 Cory Ann Fan
Nov 20th, 2003, 10:41 PM
Lena moves better than Lindsay... although Lindsay was improving before the injury, when she lost some weight.

goldenlox
Nov 20th, 2003, 10:43 PM
Lindsay did well at her size, and with her movement.
The tour is tougher now, so Lena has to be better than Lindsay to get those kinds of results.

Nov 20th, 2003, 10:47 PM
It's debatable if the tour is tougher now than it was in 2000... especially if the Williams' reign may be ending.

Anna was #8 in 2000. Could that Anna today be top 10 if both sisters, and the rest are healthy?

#1 Cory Ann Fan
Nov 20th, 2003, 10:51 PM
Absolutely. Anna was a more talented player than Myskina is now. I may not like Anna much, but she was a great athlete.

goldenlox
Nov 20th, 2003, 10:55 PM
I see this top 4 as super consistent. They almost never lose like Venus did to Vera in Paris. And Venus wasn't healthy.
That makes it harder for everyone else.
I think in 2004 it's going to be hard for anyone else to win a Tier I, forget about a major.

#1 Cory Ann Fan
Nov 20th, 2003, 11:32 PM
Yes... the Top 4 players are clearly better than the rest.

But, then again, you could have also said that about Lindsay... she rarely lost to anyone ranked below her. Then, see Filderstadt.

goldenlox
Nov 20th, 2003, 11:45 PM
I think Justine and Kim are still improving. They went through the draw of every major this year.
That's why this Fed Cup was so winnable. And so disappointing.
This won't happen again for awhile.

Gold Coast is coming very soon. This January Lena beat Sveta and Nadia en route to the semifinals.
It looks like the top seeds are Ai, Nadia, and Vera.
Lena will be seeded around #6.

Lena withdrew from Gold Coast. If she has an injury, and can't play the AO, she should take her time. Come back healthy.
