It's starting a week later this year aswell. Last year it started on the 13th or 14th? of Jan, this year is starts on the 19th i think.

I thought March would have been a nice option, to give players more time to get into the season. However, it would really change the dynamic of the tournament. Moving the tournament back one week will probably make a huge difference (so the season will never start in December) and more players will play in week 1 than usual.

You know what's interesting about the calendar flip this year? Some of the tournaments like the French and Wimbledon are not going back a week at all, while most of the tournaments are.

Why should the Aus Open move to March when the best time for them to have it is right where it is? That would be stupid of them. It could screw up the schedule and lead to a dramatic loss in press coverage and prestige for the event. Moving it just one or two weeks later is a much better option. 99 percent of the players play the tournament as it stands now, so i guess it's not such an inconvenience.
