Wow, they are both playing really well.

Amelie has already hit alot of winners at net, and JuJu's backhand down the line has been incredible.

JuJu up 2-1 with a break...It seems like we're in for a pretty high level match :p

jellybelly, Amelie just had four set points and couldn't convert. If Justine holds her serve like I think she will, Amelie will lose this set.

Justine really won the second set... :p

She started playing alot better after being down a break, and Momo's level has fallen some, but not that much. She was getting outplayed at the end of the second....stop giving her such a tough time, Jennifer and Kim are bigger choker's than her.

Too bad for JuJu  But I said that I wasn't going to be sad if MoMo won ... So ... Well played by both girls, but a bit too much mistakes in the third set by Justine. That's what made the difference. But JuJu has the seasonal ending #1. And sometimes a not 100% Belgian final is good for tennis :p

And that first set  One of the best (if not THE best) I've ever seen in my life :hearts:

Can't we have the two of them playing Kim at the same time. 2 against 1. The ultimate challenge for Kim's defence

Well deserved win for Mauresmo. I'll admit, in the last game, I wasn't sure she was going to pull it off after losing those match points, but on the last two, she played aggressively, and she won it.
It's got to be disappointing for Henin-Hardenne, losing her last two matches after securing the number one ranking, but she just wasn't all there today. She was trying to force herself to be pumped up, but everybody has limits. She just hit the wall mentally and couldn't bounce back.
Kudos to Mauresmo, though, for taking advantage of that. She could have easily gone away after going down that break in the third, but she bounced back right away and eventually took charge of the set. She's got a second wind after almost being out of the tournament yesterday, and today, she was definitely the better player. Win or lose, Mauresmo should end the year on a high, having done well in her last two events. Best of luck to her in the finals, tomorrow night.

Nov 10th, 2003, 01:22 AM
In fact Amelie has played the highest level during the tournament....it´s just that she has let two winnable matches slip away.

I missed the first set (taped it though so I'll be watching it after I get off my computer) but I really didn't think she played all that badly. Just that she didn't "find that extra level" like she had done so many times this year. I think that many of us just got overly used to seeing her pull these wins out that she could play a match such as this one and some of us think she's sub-par. In reality, this is probably more like how she "normally" plays.

Amelie played very well. I hope she wins tomorrow. (Imagine a year-end No.4 who missed out playing two slams!...and didn't get beyond QF in the other two.)

bandabou
Nov 10th, 2003, 01:43 AM
That would make Amelie the only player to defeat all four the slam-semi/ finalists this year!!! And she would have defeated all the players who have been no.1 and no.2 this year!! Serena:no.1, Venus no.2, Justine no.2, and Kim no.1...not bad!

I agree that she didn't play badly, but something seemed to be missing today. Henin-Hardenne was up a break in both the first and third sets, and she couldn't hold on either time. In the first set, she was pumping her fist a lot, talking to herself, and looking up at her entourage -- not at all like I've seen from her recently.
In the second set, after she went down the quick break, she seemed frustrated, but she stepped up and outplayed Mauresmo, simple as that. In the third, she had that break right away, but when she lost her serve, it seemed like she was a little deflated. Of course, a couple of games later, she lost serve and eventually the match.
She's a human being. I think that Henin-Hardenne has been a little burnt out this fall, physically and mentally, especially after she got sick right away on the heels of her two week break. The off season will be good for her -- she'll be able to rest and come back refreshed.
