View Full Version : Rubin Out of YEC Contention

lizchris

She just took the first set 6-4, but lost the last two sets 7-5, 6-1. She could have won the match twice on her serve and couldn't convert and there are no excuses.

I know Venus is injured, but after this, I wished she had played.

Well done Chanda!

Mauresmo's faint hopes are slipping away

So Shonda might be the French First name in the SF! :D

Nov 8th, 2003, 09:59 PM
Yep...Momo blew it this year. Blew two matches that she had great chances to win.

But of all the participants to this YEC, Elena D sure has to be the most dissapointing one! WEAK!

I really want Lena to win a match!!

Nov 8th, 2003, 10:36 PM
It may very well happen. Chanda was up 5-2 and she's about to go down 5-6 if she doesn't get her act together. I'd hate to see her pull a Capriati.

MisterQ
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:37 PM
Come on Chanda! Don't let this set go!

Linzi
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:37 PM
Oh dear, a capriati-style choke job. I wanna see Amelie in the semi's so its all good.

Chanda is pulling a MAJOR choke right now.

Amelie is my favorite player in the Red Group, so if Elena wins, that would be great...but no one wants to see this.

Chanda deserves to be in the SF based upon her play this week, and she's throwing it away.

TheBoiledEgg
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:47 PM
Chanda was 5-4 and 30-15
she hit a great FH Crosscourt pass, Elena stretched low and hit an unbelievable volley to win that pt

I'm confused; they just said on Eurosport that Chanda has qualified even if she loses, as Mauresmo has won 4 sets, lost 4, Dementieva 2/5, and Rubin has won 5 sets, giving her the advantage?

Hurley
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:48 PM
Chanda loses -- Mauresmo is in.

bandabou
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:49 PM
And now she is in building herself in deeper doodoo!!

Hurley
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:49 PM
Mauresmo ends at 4-4...Chanda loses this set, she is 3-5.

Eurosport isn't even close.

Jon how much is 4/4 ???

if 2/5 = 40% and 3/5 = 60% ???

Bradnam/Durie think 4/4=50% :haha:

Hurley
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:51 PM
This is also huge for the rankings...If Chanda had won, she would have bumped Elena out of the Top 8. Now it looks like Chanda will stay out of the Top 8.

Nov 8th, 2003, 10:52 PM
She just took the first set 6-4.

OMG you jinxed her bigtime :o
Elena leading 2-0 in the third

Won 4 Lost 4 = Won 50% of her sets. Its their other percentages that are screwed. ;)

Well, who is in? Is it Amelie or Chanda? Surely it must be Amelie if Elena wins.

Amelie will have won 2 sets against Elena, 1 against Chanda, 1 against Kim = 4

Chanda won 2 against Amelie, 0 against Kim, 1 against Elena = 3

Yes?

TheBoiledEgg
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:56 PM
simple if Elena wins Amelie makes SF

Hurley
Nov 8th, 2003, 10:56 PM
If Chanda wins = Chanda is IN

If Elena wins = Amelie is IN

Simple as that.

Next year we should make a sticky thread for the round robin rules. It's getting a bit annoying. :o

Hurley

LOL...this is the third set ;)

4-6 7-5 3-1 Elena :)

Hurley
Nov 8th, 2003, 11:00 PM
4-1 in the third...Chanda is far too tentative and Elena has been blowing her off the court.

This is how Elena should be playing all the time.

Did anyone figure out who will be third and fourth if Elena wins this in three?

It does make a 54-point difference in rankings...

Hurley
Nov 8th, 2003, 11:02 PM
Kim 3-0 6-1
Amelie 1-2 4-4
Chanda 1-2 3-5
Elena 1-2 2-5

Looks like it will end like that unless Chanda makes one of her patented comebacks (following one of her patented chokes).

Chanda would be 3rd, Elena 4th.

Go to the thread http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=93150, I think you already know it. ;)

Amelie! :worship:

But, really, she's a very lucky goil after losing her grip on two matches like that.

Euro are most likely assuming because Chanda & Amelie are 1 win a piece and Chanda beat Amelie then Chanda is through.

I can see how they think that.

Yeah, these rules are complicated. Then again, it is reasonably clear to all of us. You'd hope that professional commentators could get it right.

I was agin this round-robin format, but what a lot of drama it's producing. I guess I was wrong (and not just coz Momo has squeaked through... it's been drama all the way).

No, if only it were that sensible! Jo Durie reckons that 3/5=60% for Chanda, and 4/4=50% for Amelie! Duh!!

She's getting mixed up because obviously the % are really 4/8 sets and 3/8 sets! They're getting on my nerves now - I guess former British number 1s aren't that good at basic maths!! :o ;)

Actually, Chris the commentator gets on my nerves at the best of times anyway so its just nice to be able to have a moan at him!!
