She has won two tier II titles this season and pre much assured herself a top 10 ranking. So, is it fair to claim she has finally caught up with Kimiko in greatness?
Kimiko won two tier II+ titles (San Diego & Tokyo) and Ai now matches her in that department.

Erm, I love Ai :hearts: but semi-finals of all four slams ring a bell ?

Kimiko :worship: (in spite of the Miami semi 1995  ).

kimiko by far is greater

she was world number 4

sugiyama's highest ranking is 11.

and of course there was all the grandslams semis that Date reached

Sugiyama is better in doubles, but Date is definately better in singles.

Nope....Kimiko was a better singles player than Ai. GS semi´s are rare.

Kimiko has won Tier I event (Tokyo-indoor), and final at Miami losing to Graf...

and maybe those era in Japan... tennis was way more popular.
Kimiko's articles were everywhere... on newspaper...magazines...

Ai's achivement has been really great so far especially this year for both singles and doubles... the media is picking up more topics about Ai now... but still less than when Kimiko was a top player.

but, Ai seems playing for a few more years... so hope she's catching up to Kimiko! yeah, some good results in GS is a must!!

Go Ai! :bounce:

Kimiko could beat anyone on her day, Ai isn't quite on that level.
