MIAMI, Florida : France's Amelie Mauresmo leapfrogged Venus Williams in the WTA rankings thanks to her weekend WTA victory in Philadelphia.

Mauresmo, 24, moves up one spot into sixth while Williams, who has not played since the Wimbledon final in July with an abdominal strain, has dropped to seventh.

Williams has also withdrawn from the season-ending WTA Tour Championships which begins Wednesday in Los Angeles, along with sister Serena and fellow American Lindsay Davenport.

Belgian Kim Clijsters holds the number one spot ahead of compatriot Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Congrats to Mauresmo, as I predicted last year the Williams Sisters could not hold onto 1 and 2 this year. And I am wondering about the return of Venus all together, she has talked like she might retire. I have been wondering, but of course if she does not play she will slip in the rankings, same is true for Serena. :wavey:
