Welcome to Pick-A-Winner (PAW), the Predictions game!

Playing is simple: over the course of the tournament choose any 13 matches in the Main Draw and post who you think will win them.

You should have posted a commitment to play this tournament. The deadline for commitments is November 2, 2003 Midnight local time (5 PM GMT).
If you haven't but would like to play you may enter as a wildcard recipient, but each player is limited to three late entires.
PLAYERS WHO QUALIFIED TO LOS ANGELES CAN NOT ENTER THIS TOURNAMENT!

Please note:
1. Players who committed to Pattaya and will qualify to Los Angeles will be automatically withdrawn from Pattaya, as soon as the qualifyers are determined. No need to post anything if your name is on this list and you play in Los Angeles.
2. Players who posted commitment to Los Angeles and will not qualify, are NOT automatically entered to Pattaya and they HAVE to post a commitment for this tourmnament on the COMMITMENTS THREAD in PAW forum until the deadline.
3. Anyone who wants to play in this tournament and his/her name is not on the list above, should post a commitment on the COMMITMENTS THREAD in PAW forum until the deadline.

Players who qualify to Los Angeles are automatically withdrawn from this tournament. I advise players who are not sure they qualified or will qualify to delay their picks until the qualifyers are determined, after the ranking list that follows Philadelphia and Quebec.

Not really...
When I converted the list to alphabetical order, I found a duplicate and even triplicate (one player has commited 3 times!), and then I "withdrawn" 2 players already qualified to LA...
but while I was doing that, 2 more players have commited...
So now the list is 67 players...
There are 7 vacant places in the YEC, so I expect 7 players will drop from this list when the qualifyers to LA are determined...
And in the list of players I find some "ghosts" (not the player with that name!), whose name I didn't see since I started playing this game... (barely 5 weeks ago, but I became familiar with everyone who happend to play in my tournament)...
So I expect eventually the # of players who will show up will be between 50-55, and that's not unusual...

maybe to many players get injured... :)

The final list of participants is published. There will be no more entries allowed in this tournament. There are 70 entries and, allthough this is not a record (in recent months there were 80 actual participants in US Open, IE those who posted picks, and 74 actual participants in Zurich), it's quite a large field, especially when you consider the level of the tournament...
In paraphrase to Churchil's speech I would say: "Never were so many PAWers fighting over so few points in a tournament played by so lowly-ranked players..."

Speaking of lowly-ranked players... I published a list of the players (the actual players, I mean) and their current ranking in post #2 just below the opening post... also there you can find the order of play for Monday, and the subsequent days will be added as soon as they come... once the results are available, the start-time for each match will be added on the OOP. As this is tier 5 tournament, I presume there's no TV coverage, and therefor start time will be determined by 3-minutes per game rule, as specified in chapter 11 of the rules (see link in post#1).
As the tournament is played in east Asia, matches will start in the morning for those living in Europe and at night (the previous night) for those in America. For example, tommorrow's start time of 3PM is at 8AM in London and 3AM in New York.
Take care and please post your picks in time, so I would have less work looking after late picks...
With the order of play on this thread, you don't need to look elsewhere, and no excuses will be accepted...

Please be careful... this amount of late picks is far beyond what I expect from responsible players... check the start time carefully before you make picks for the same day... if you make commitment to play in a tournament in East Asia, you should adjust to the local time... if you were actual player, you would be disqualified if you are late for the match... in this case you are entitled to replacement pick if you're late for the match, but soon you would run out of picks to choose from...

As I explained to you in PM, your pick for Tamaela def Beltrame in post #129 was after the start time.
In order to make exception from the 3-minutes per game rule, there has to be live broadcast on international TV or live scores available on a website, and the scores should be reported in real time in this forum, so that the information about actual start time is available to all players.
If you have information about the start time from other source, that was not widely available, it is not acceptable.

Excerpt from PAW rules:
11. Of course, Picks must be made before the match begins. If there is a chance the match had started when the Pick was posted then that Pick cannot be accepted. This rule is applied very strictly.

Post/Email your picks before the session of play begins to ensure your picks are accepted. This is so everyone knows your pick was made before the match started. (Match start times are not recorded, so picks made five minutes before a match starts cannot normally be accepted.)

NOTE: There is a Closing Time for each match. The Closing Time is the time after which Picks will be deemed invalid.

The Closing Time for the first match in a session is the start time for that session. The Closing Times for subsequent matches are determined by a formula. The formula is based on the total number of games played in earlier matches in the same session. Basically, three minutes are allowed for each game plus 10 minutes for each break between matches.

Picks posted after the Closing Time are accepted only in exceptional circumstances (e.g. in the case of rain delays, or if I happen to have watched the match live and noted the start time).

My interpretation of this rule is that start times are determined by 3-minutes-per-game rule by default, unless there is evidence that the match has started later, and the actual start time can be determined.

It's the players responsibility to know the rules and anyone who takes part in the game should accept the rules.
This is a basic principle of every game.
The absolute majority of players respect the rules and accept the decisions of tournament managers, who are volunteers that devote great amount of their time in order to operate this game.
If there weren't rules and no one would enforced them, there was no game.
