Actually, I think it *is* without its merits. :D

One of the Brit tabs had the headline "Miss Sex on Legs Retires". Kinda sez it all.

Kinda surprised to see you surface, Mexicotrip. Did you bring us some examples of Venus giving excuses after losses, or am I being insufferably rude, possibly wildly misinformed, for even bringing that up?

Not a crazy theory at all. I long suspected that the "pretty blonde Russian who has never won a title" was a phrase that Octagon planted and then encouraged, because it brought more attention to Kournikova. In their way of thinking, any publicity was good publicity. And considering that Kournikova made a hundred million, it looks like losing was a good strategy for her getting attention. It's not unreasonable to suggest that had she been a "better" tennis player, Kournikova would be less famous than she is.

Of course. The attention from sponsors is because she's beautiful, not because of her tennis, so naturally the media jump on the fact that she's had an unsuccessful career as far as victories go, yet still earns so much money compared to the girls out there actually winning.

It wouldn't have mattered if Anna would have won or not... Anna has been destined for a career in porn, and soon she will follow her calling.

Did/Does Anna get more attention because she's doesn't win?

Yep probably, same happened to me when I was playing. I had a lot of attention then....

the combination of success and glamour would always make much more money than a few cheap mentions in a newspaper article. the size of endorsement deals depends heavily on how much you are seen on court. adidas wants anna on the court as much as is humanly possible. anna walking down a red carpet does little to sell their product in comparison, and thus impinges on their willingness to pay her more and more money.

if kournikova was number 1, or even in the top 5 the amount of money she would be making would be astronomical. ok it already is, but even more so.

She would get more attention if she won more IMO. Which, when you consider how much she gets now, is .

No. If Anna had got to the top 4, she'd have been looking down on us from every other billboard.

Anna's just a minor-celeb now. With her charisma and a lot of titles, the sky would have been the limit.

he has no examples. he's a true blue hater.

anyway the only thing anna gets by losing is less respect.

Because she isn't respect in tennis. :( :fiery: :shout:

Therefore I want her compatroit, Yevgeny Kafelnikov become her coach!! :bounce: :bolt:

What do you think?

What does Anna need Kafelnikov's help for? She ALREADY gets paid to lose matches.

Actually, I think it *is* without its merits. :D Joui, there was SOME survey published a few months ago that actually found it increased Anna's appeal to men in that she didn't seem "threatening" to the male ego like a Mia Hamm, FloJo (RIP), Serena, etc. (Perchance Annika MISSING the cut @ Colonial vs. the men could afford her the same "vulnerabilty" appeal)?

...it means she gets criticised...which gives her rabid fans something to defend her from...

...if she was winning, people talk about her, sure, but if she's not winning, people write about her AND people write about why she gets written about so much when she isn't winning AND people write about why people write about why she gets written about when she isn't winning...etc... :)

I am sorry, did i not explain what happened RE: the Venus post?

Interesting Roger, but I still bet she'd be on every fucking billboard in town if she were a champion player. It's a pity. She seems to have self-destructed psychologically (and, to be fair, suffered all those physical injuries) since the late 1990s when she appeared set to become a worldbeater. Imagine an alternative world in which she was now fulfilling her seeming destiny (four years ago, say) of winning GS singles titles. She would be a HUGE star.
