Although Justine is my #1 Fave at the moment, i agree with a lot of discussions that there is a lack of depth in women's tennis... well it always was... but this time, we are having the best 2 players in the world sideline because of injuries (Serena & Venus...)

Seles is also out, Jen Cap and Amelie are not playing at their maximum potential, Lindsay is out for surgery... the best thing that ever happened to Women's Tennis (Anna K) is also out, and there is a possibility that she will be out for good...

So what we have left are only Kim and Justine (Not to take anything away from these 2 as i adore them dearly, especially Justine :worship: :worship: :worship: ) But both of them have been dominating WTA without the existance of big stars...

I am really glad that Maria Sharapova arrives on tour, and i think she is the next big thing... but who else that we see could be upthere, not nly because of other players injured, but really belongs up there...

Hantuchova?? Major slump this year Dokic?? see Hantuchova... Dementieva and Myskina??? They are good, but not top 5 materials!!

Petrova? maybe.. Pierce? coming back but i think her time is almost up.. Danilidou? blew her chance to be top 10, look where she is now!!

Who else?? please tell me ...

One more thing that i see this year thay a lot of veterans are in the top 20... eg: Maleeva, Martinez, Coetzer, Pistolesi, Farina due to the lack of new stars...

So my point is, not only we need Champions, we need champions who could make things exciting again for Women's tennis.

Your thoughts please!!!!!!!!!!

look over at the russians. petrova, bovina, dementieva (if she fixes that serve), zvonareva, kuznetsova, sharapova, lina k, safina, kirilenko and douchevina. they all have loads and loads of talent. some have already shown top 5 or top 10 potential (i.e. petrova, bovina, zvonareva) and myskina and dementieva are already both top 10. zvonareva is on the verge of the top 10.

hantuchova, dokic, schnyder, casanova, stevenson and daniilidou all have a lot of talent. vakulenko, and stosur have a lot of talent but are yet to mould it.

there is a lot of talent out there, so the problem isn't lack of talent. i9s the transition from being a medicore player to a top player too hard at the moment? it could be the problem but what can we do about it? people want to see high quality tennis and the top stars want to win so it's a catch 22 situation.

there is also a group of young players who haven't yet hit the tour in a major way yet like krajicek, kleybanova, vaidisova, timea b, kutuzova, lisjak, haynes, gullickson and a few others i can't remember and some that i can't spell.

i was getting bored of the williams domination and i am now getting bored of the belgian domination. fans are never pleased completely we keep changing over minds and when things happen that we want then we don't always like it.

but as for needing more champions, well there are usually only a small number of champions each generation. just cause 2 get injured we can't expect 2 other players to step up and replace them, we may want them to but it won't always happen.

so, the talents there we just have to bide our time.

I definitely think alot of the up and coming Russians could be stars. A lot of them are beautiful and they're playing great tennis, unlike "the best player ever for women's tennis."

Definitely Maria Sharapova seems like she is ready to step up and put a jolt through the world of professional tennis. :p

what about the americans?? do you see any other players to be on the top of women's tennis, after the likes of davenport, seles, capriati retire??

Players like Amelie, Dementieva, Myskina and Rubin need to increase their public profile.

Dementieva could really cash in on the pretty blonde tennis player look, but she seems to shy away from attention.

Dokic and Hantuchova are pretty popular, they just need to get their games in order and re-enter the Top 10.

Dementieva is pretty but she is not that pretty...

like it or not but sex sells!! look at players like Dokic, Hantuchova, Sharapova... not to mention Kournikova... not only they are playing good tennis, but also they have other assets to sell!

Thats what I mean. Dementieva (if she got the right outfits and actually decided to glam up a bit for the court) could definitely be in the same league as Harkleroad, Sharapova, Dokic and Hantuchova. Physically, she has all the assets and has done some photoshoots before.

Its easy to be a tennis player, but to make it as a superstar on the court is very difficult.

i think the front runners are haynes and gullickson for the americans. i ahven't seen either play but from what i've been told gullickson won't be a very top player and haynes may have a chance. abigail spears is also meant to have a huge game but she's a bit older and may have already lost her chance however she probably wouldn't have been a top player, maybe a top 50 player. and cory ann avants has a lot of talent but she needs to fix that serve.

haynes and gullickson keep you eye on them.

Dokica, Dementieva...both to me are much, much, much more appealing than Hantuchova...what are people looking in a tooth-pick anyways?!

Hantuchova was not a tooth pick when she arrived in women's tennis ;)

Go Dani! (Nice to see that she's had a couple of hamburgers lately, though. Even I was starting to get a li'l worried about her.)
