love your choices except the honorable mentions becaue i've never heard of them. but definitely nothing compares 2 U by Sinead!!!! And Time After Time but this time by Eva Cassidy - the way she sings it is far more emotional. I don't know what my third one would be. Maybe Desperado?

1. Beautiful Boy - John Lennon (makes me cry whenever I hear this part...)

Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) Lyrics
John Lennon
Double Fantasy

Out on the ocean sailing away
I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient
'Cause it's a long way to go
A hard row to hoe
Yes it's a long way to go
But in the meantime

Before you cross the street
Take my hand
Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
__________________________________________________ ______________
It makes me cry because he's talking about the future with his son and for me at the time it was such a sappy song and then less than a year later he's dead.

"I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient"

"Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans"

John Lennon was so awesome!!!

I still miss him.

why dont you just buy them here?

too expensive?

you should DL the song... its really good :)

lyrics:

Well I hope that I don't fall in love with you
'Cause falling in love just makes me blue,
Well the music plays and you display
your heart for me to see,
I had a beer and now I hear you
calling out for me
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

Well the room is crowded, people everywhere
And I wonder, should I offer you a chair?
Well if you sit down with this old clown,
take that frown and break it,
Before the evening's gone away,
I think that we could make it,
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

Well the night does funny things inside a man
These old tom-cat feelings you don't understand,
Well I turn around to look at you,
you light a cigarette,
I wish I had the guts to bum one,
but we've never met,
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

I can see that you are lonesome just like me,
and it being late, you'd like some some company,
Well I turn around to look at you,
and you look back at me,
The guy you're with has up and split,
the chair next to you's free,
And I hope that you don't fall in love with me.

Now it's closing time, the music's fading out
Last call for drinks, I'll have another stout.
Well I turn around to look at you,
you're nowhere to be found,
I search the place for your lost face,
guess I'll have another round
And I think that I just fell in love with you.

I am going to buy some dozens of CDs when I am in Russia in few months anyway, and , yes, it is much cheaper over there.

And the lyrics somewhat remind me oneRussian song, written on the poem of one of the best Russian poets of XX century, a woman, BTW.

This is the best translation i found, though imperfect ( rhymes and sizes are not all exact, while in the original they are perfect ), I still like it more than other versions.

I like it that your heart aches not for me,
That not for you my heart is sweetly aching.
And that the slow planet underneath
Our feet shall never slip away while turning.
I like it that I can be unabashed
And frivolous, and pay no mind to wording,
And not to drown in the waves of choking blush
When our sleeves are accidentally brushing.

I like it that in my presence you embrace
Another woman, with no guilty feelings,
That you don’t threaten me with the eternal flames
For kissing -- others -- openly and freely.
And that my sweet name, you, my sweetheart, don’t
Ever use in vain -- daytime or in the evening,
And that the silence of a church will not embrace
The two of us with Hallelujahs singing.

I’m grateful from the bottom of my heart
To you. For you, not even knowing,
Do love me so: for the nights we rest apart,
The moonlight, under which we aren’t strolling,
For evening dates predestined not to start,
And for the sun that’s -- not for us – is shining,
And not for me – alas! – still aches your heart,
And not for you – alas! – my heart is aching.

no i don't..

Brian Wilson wrote "In My Room" during the early years of the Beach Boys. His father was a tyrannical monster who ran the group (brothers and a cousin) with an iron fist. Brian felt the only place he could escape was in his room.

Lyrics:
There's a world where
I can go and
Tell my secrets to
In my room
In my room

In this world I
Lock out all my
Worries and my fears
In my room
In my room

Do my dreaming and my scheming
Like awake and pray?
Do my crying and my sighing
Laugh at yesterday?

Now it's dark and
I'm alone but
I won't be afraid
In my room
In my room

He later suffered a mental breakdown and was forced to quit touring with the band.

As for the Beatles' Yesterday, the lyrics are quite sad:

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away.
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.
Why she had to go, I don't know,
She wouldn't say.
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday.
Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Why she had to go, I don't know,
She wouldn't say.
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday.
Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Another to add: I am a Rock -- Simon & Garfunkel

the name of the writer and the person who sang the song would make me happy :)

The name of the poet is Marina Tsvetaeva. One of my favourites. She lived in the first half of XXst century, in her youth she had a lot of boyfriends and girlfriends, was very open-minded. She didn't leave the Soviet Union for France in 20-30s, even though had the opportunity, because of her son. She was considered almost "an enemy of the people", and her poetry, generally not a simple thing to read, was considered as alien to Soviet morale. She hung herself after WWII started, reasons are not exactly known. Not many people cared at the time. The poem was dedicated to another legend of Russian poetry, who, by all accounts, indeed wasn't her boyfriend.

"The Saddest Song" by Cherry

I almost had a car accident singing along to this song on the CD player in my car. No, not really, but it was a very underrated song by a pop girl group from a few years ago. The group didn't last very long but I still love this song.

"Close To You" by The Carpenters

I first heard this song in the 80's when I was a wee tacker. I remember feeling very sad every time I heard it on the radio. I then heard it again in the movie, "The Broken Hearts Club" and it made me sad again.

"Have You Ever?" by Brandy.

Brandy put her heart and soul into this song. I think this song is all about longing and yearning, and that's what I feel whenever I hear this song. It makes me stop and think about what coulda been, what shoulda been, and what still could be. It's beautiful.

ok, this may come as a shock, but i'm a *little* older than most people here, so bear with me
(i'm not THAT old, just 31!)

:( MASQUERADE--carpenters: karen carpenter just makes me sad. such a beautiful voice, taken away so young. the song is about a doomed relationship, with both sides trying to hold on, pretending...

:( BORDERLINE--madonna: i know this is a mid tempo song, and the video doesnt seem too sad, but it's about a girl desperately trying to cling on to a dying relationship. very "innocent-madonna", very nice.

:( TIME AFTER TIME--cyndi lauper: again, the theme of a dying love. nothing feels worse than slowly realizing your love and her love for you is dying. and trying to save what can't be saved. i hear ya cyndi!!

:( TEARS IN HEAVEN--eric clapton: this song is so sad i switch stations whenever i hear it. clapton wrote it for his son who died in an accident. enough said.

:( DON'T SPEAK--no doubt: the emotions in this song obviuosly struck a chord with listeners as this song shot to number one and brought the group instant fame. everyone can identify with the heartache and feelings of loss seeing your love die a slow death. " hush hush darling", dont say what hurts me...

:p BABY GOT BACK--sir mixalot: now, this songs defines sad in a totally different way, if you catch my drift.

damn, i should be working for a magazine!

all in all, there's nothing like a sad song to make us cry. sorry for all the songs i missed. i know there are plenty others.

selena's: "dreaming of you"--more sad because of what happened to her. such talent, such joy in her performances, taken away oh so young.....*SOB*

late at night when all the world is sleepin
i stay up and think of you
and i wish on a star
that soemwhere you are thinking of me too.
cause i'm dreamin of you tonite
till tomorrow i'll be holding you tight
and there's no where in the world i'd rather be
then here in my room
dreaming with you endlessly...

not the most deep lyrics, but touching in its innocence and sweetness, especially considering the singer was brutally murdered.

i just ended a 2 year relationship with a girli thought was gonna spend the rest of my life withme. i KNOW SAD SONGS

"till death do us part",from the album LIKE A PRAYER, madonna

our luck is running out of time
you're not in love with me anymore.
i wish that it would change but it wont
cause you dont love me no more

need so much but not from me
turn your back in my hour of need
well something's wrong but you pretend
you dont see
i think i interrupt your life
when your laughing cuts me like a knife
i'm not your friend
i'm just your little wife

our luck is running out of time
you're not in love with me anymore
i wish that it would change but it wont
if you don't

the bruises they will fade away
you hit so hard with the things you say.
i will not stay to watch your hate
as it grows

you're not in love with someone else
you dont even love yourself
still i wish you'd ask me not to go

he's not in love with her anymore

you're not in love with someone else
you dont even love yourself
still i'd wish you ask me not to go.

she says ENOUGH
she says THE END
but she'll come back
she knows it then
a chance to start it all again

till death do us part

I do too - they just are sad songs - emotionally for me to listen to cause of certain reasons. But I love the songs.

Alone Again, Naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan

Honey - Bobby Goldsboro

See the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big.
I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it
' Was just a twig.
The the first snow came
And she ran out to brush the snow away
So it wouldn't die.
Came runnin' in all excited
Slipped and almost hurt herself
I laughed till cried.

She was always young at heart
Kind a dumb and kind a smart
And I loved her so.
I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all christmas eve
Two years ago.

And it would sure embarrass her
when I came home from working late
'Cause I would know
That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'.
Over some sad and silly late late show:

And Honey I miss you and I'm being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could.

She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad
But what the heck.
Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me
And hugged my neck.
I came home unexpectedly
And found her crying needlessly
In the middle of the day
And it was in the early spring
When flowers bloom and robins sing
She went away.

And Honey I miss you and I'm being good . . .

Yes
one day while I wasn't home
While she was there and all alone
The angels came.
Now all I have is memories
Of Honey and I wake up nights
And call her name.
Now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played
And love grew up.
A small cloud passes over head
And cries down in the flower bed
That Honey loved.

And Honey I miss you and I'm being good.
And I'd love to be with you if only I could.
