Back in my ICQ days, I used to "random chat" with people for shits and giggles. I was still relatively new to the internet at this point. So I always ended up chatting with people from the same hometown as me, who were trying to pick up. It was pretty funny :p

So this one time, this one guy actually kept talking to me for a while.., a couple months maybe. Anyways, so my friend Josie was over one day and started chatting to him - we were planning on going ot the mall that day, her and I. So without telling me, she invites him to come meet us. See, from what I knew about this guy, he worked directly across the street from me, with one of my best friends boyfriend.... so there were already eerie coincidences. So my friend Josie spots him in the crowd and cracks up - she grew up with the guy! They used to go to school together! And if that isn't enough, I later learned that I used to dance with his sister.

He tried to pick me up in RL, but I shot him down :p

Beat that ;)

Another ICQ story... so again, I was chatting with some guy for quite a while. Maybe a year? He was interesting, and it gave me something to do before I discovered messageboards :p He liked tennis too, so that was a definately plus. Anyways...

The other guy I met who worked with my best friends boyfriend? Yeah, this guy worked with the best friend! They both lived in the middle of buttfuck nowhere and the grocery store had like 20 employees, so this was also an impressive coincidence.

I ended up meeting him - he also hit on me :p I shot him down too :p Later, he and my friend almost hooked up

damn, that's a small town...where are you from, Tilsonburg? :o
Well I don't know if this is the same thing...but I keep getting added on ICQ by these (usually 14-15 year old) girls who go to my highschool. It's so stupid...they keep starting off with "hey, I live in Brantford too. I'm in Grade 9 at North Park, what's your name". Who the hell does searches on ICQ by location? and what exactly are these girls looking to find? Some guy to console them and help them with their homework?

The ICare4U thing was very weird though...that kind of thing I don't expect to happen that often.

Learning that Barrie_Dude posts here from an internet café not 100m from my building every night is almost as weird

The best part of my story is that BOTH of them hit on me :p

alexusjonesfan

The best part of my story is that BOTH of them hit on me :p

Yes, you couldn't emphasize the 'hitting on you' parts enough. Brantford's got about 86000 people...funny story: You know how they have those signs on the highway when you enter a county? (eg. Welcome to Burlington, population blah blah, 5 interchanges blah blah)
Well the Brantford one said "population: 84 001" for the longest time (I think they changed it now) but it was so weird and wrong. Brantford's famous for a couple of things:
-Having one of the highest per capita drug use rates in Ontario
-Having a downtown which consists of boarded up stores with painted signs and painted people on the boards to make it look like a real store
-Having the 'charity' casino (I think the city gets like 5% of their revenue and most of the people that spend money there are from the city itself)
Oh yeah, and the whole Wayne Gretzky thing, Alexander Graham Bell thing (we're the 'telephone city') and the Phil Hartman thing (yup he was from Brantford too... there's a comedy festival every year in his honour and we had Colin Mochrie the last year- my friend who was stage manager got to meet him )
and yeah apparently some Accordian playing dude who's been nominated for 5 grammies in the Polka category resides in Brantford (apparently, he's the king of Polka  )

So where are you from? STOP HIDING IT!!! Simcoe? St. Catherines? Whitby? Owen Sound? Orillia? Pickering? Peterborough?

aww shucks!
oookay...so I hope I'm not way out in left field with the Sanford Fleming Reference (he was dean at Queen's according to Google  ). I think he lived in Ottawa but that has too high a pop.

I think he lived in Halifax for a good amount of time... he died there at least. Regardless, you're going about this all the wrong way. :banghead:
All of mine offered me 3500-4000... but half of that was because I was financially in need, and the other half for grades. So nothing that special, but it sounds good :p Some people are like "why go to Guelph if you got into Queens and Toronto"... I'm sorry, but Queens is just a name :p Yeah, it's a good school. But Guelph doesn't top the comprehensive listings in MacLeans half the time because it's a crap school.

Yeah, Guelph is definitely underrated amongst highschool students, but as I've come to realize, high school students know nothing about universities  Mac and Queens offered me 2000 or 3000, UofT, nothing...my backup choice was an easy program at Western just in case (party!)

Becca, the only town I can come up with is Port Dover...which I don't think is big enough nor do I think has anything to do with standard time :o It's all a big hunch.

See, the problem was you threw in that weird reference to sandals with socks which meant nothing to me and then you did the whole 'oh it's one of the one's on the list but not' bit which threw me off even more and finally, Google's a bitch, because I kept reading Scotland and Halifax in every hit. Did she change her last name after marriage? I know of a girl from our highschool with the McNamara last name (her daughter? relative?)...
besides this is like one of those questions I get when I go to the US and tell people I'm Canadian...I always get: "Hey, you're from Canada? Do you know Rob from Vancouver?" :o :p

Here's a Molson Canadian commercial highlighting that fact:

You might have to register at www.canadaka.net for free first if it doesn't let you download. If it makes you register (i.e. commit heresy), you can go to the 'downloads' section...the ad is called Molson Canadian - Office Glen

so how do you know this 'Brantford Woman' anyway? We both attended a political/economic seminar @ the Univ. of Delaware in the summer of 1976. I don't "know her" but Brantford "rang a Bell" :p (then and when I saw this thread). Robin was really into economics and idol-worshipped those same conservative guru's Lakeway does (I didn't find their ideas so appealing, but got college "extra credit" for attending the seminar which was largely devoted to that stuff). And I will :tape: re. the "wild kid" comment about her. Another student who I kept in occasional touch with ran into her somewhere around the time she got married and mentioned it. BTW, I have no idea if she changed her name or not, but as kids usually have the father's last name, maybe that Elisse is a 2nd cousin or something? And re. what IC4U said, I'd be surprised if Robin lived in Brantford as she seemed so ambitious I thought she'd be in (@ least  ) like Toronto or wherever, and a "CorporateGurl, blah"! :D

Indeed. I don't know why you put that there. Better edit it before I write it down.
