View Full Version : Myskina vs. Mauresmo...who will hold the Moscow trophy?

Soon enough, Anastasia Myskina, the fastest player on tour, will take on Amelie Mauresmo, who strikes the heaviest groundstrokes on tour. Who will walk away the Moscow champion, and who will hang their head in defeat?

They are two of the most "zoned" players in the game. Myskina doesn't play very well consistently, but when she does she wins 11 straight games off of Hingis, 12 of 14 against Petrova, 12 of 15 (numerous times) against Hantuchova, 10 straight games off of Rubin, and some blitzing wins over the Belgians.

Mauresmo is much the same way. She starts slowly and often loses from ghastly, terrible play, but when she gets in a rythym she is basically flawless from every part of the court.

To my knowledge, Mauresmo won their only match at Wimbledon over a year ago 6-4 6-2 or something like that, but Myskina is better now and Mauresmo is worse.

Under normal circumstances I'd say Mauresmo will win, but Myskina's list of victims the last few weeks include big names such as upset specialist Serna, Russian-conquerer Pistolesi, the HUGELY powerful Daniilidou (who plays very much like Mauresmo), the rising, powerful Petrova, and of course, Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin.

Thus, Myskina will prevail 6-3 6-4. :) Go Nastya!

4 tournaments since NY. 4 Russian champions. Nastya is 0-for-2 against Amelie. But they haven't played since 2002 Wimbledon.
Should be a good match.
Make it 5-for-5 Nastya!

He's baaaaaaack!!!

I think Mauresmo will win something like 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Then in her interview she will say she is going to be #1. LOL.

mauresmo beat dementieva in straight sets and she's been on fire lately. on the other hand mauresmo did double bagel dementieva earlier in the year didn't she? myskina played great in her last tournament and it wouldn't shock me if she beat mauresmo. actually i'd be very happy if she did because i said that she had already found her top game and that she couldn't improve anymore and i would be very very happy if she proved me wrong.

Nastya is on a great run now. Beating Justine in Leipzig and getting to the final in Moscow.
Amelie is very tough. She has to be the favorite.

I don' appreciate those people like you who are always telling lies about what the other says.
I don't remenber Amelie said she would be #1. She said that being the number one was her goal. She's in the top 10 for quite a while now and she's a tennis professionnal...what's wrong with that?

It was a joke. Mauresmo is very talented and can challenge for the #1 spot. I never said anything was wrong with her aspiring to be #1.

I don't say that she can challenge for the #1 spot either. I don't want people think that Amelie told that, joke or not.

Anyway it's too easy to pretend it was a joke. You said " she will say she's going to be #1" Sorry but I don't see the joke. And the fact you add a smiley at the end of your quote does not necessary mean it's all jokes!!

I may be stupid but can you explain to poor people like me what do you mean?

When people say things repeatedly like she has said that in interviews, it just makes me chuckle a bit, you hear it and I'm like "That's good ole Momo!" Just someone being themselves makes me smile. I hope that clears it up.

whatever...stop complaining Bassic! jeez, i thought i was bad! and as for the thread starter...lets just get a few things CLEARED UP!

Since BassicTennis is all in our faces about jokes and nicknames and whatnot, i think i should point out that Amelie is not the hardest hitting ladie on tour...not by a mile and 3/4. And as far as Myskina being the fastest??? WTF?

And who thinks she fastest? you Elitist? well fine, thats your opinion...but please dont go telling us that as if it were true...

Amanda coetzer is just as fast and shes 19 in the world...JuJu and Kim, Jennifer and Rena are all as fast if not faster than Myskina...so thats a lil bias'ism coming from you! ADMIT IT! ;) (its ok ive been known to exaggerate myself!)

Other than those two little exagerations...i like this thread and will say Myskina will win, only because this is her home town and the crowd will heckle and boo Mauresmo off the courts!

The fact that you cannot differentiate between hard and heavy shows that you either misread or have inadequate tennis knowledge. I never said she was the hardest hitting on tour.

so let me get this straight , theres a big difference between hitting hard and hitting heavy?

well think about it...no there the same thing, because if you hit HARD your hitting a heavy shot...you have too....you cant hit a big shot when your just 'going through the motions' anyways the point im making is this...you dont know how hard Myskina hits anyways...not consistently, unless you can atest to personaly clocking her speeds ect. No your just trying to be a know it-all smartass...instead your looking like an idiot!

Dont try to outsmart me sister, cause it doesnt work!

LOL, to win the first game Myskina just sprinted from side to side for an impossible attempt at a pass. She is the fastest player I've witnessed.
