She has obvoiusly improved her already excellent game. She is the TRUE #3 player!

Justine - From seemingly going nowhere in April she turned it around in May.

Elena D - If you had told me she would be back in the top 10 and have three titles at the start of the year i would have laughed in your face.

Anna K - I though after last year it couldt get any worse. I guess it did.

of the ones listed Shino!

She played so great in BMH, I was so honored to see her play that week. From being just a name i followed, she became a played i supported.

i saw her in Memphis and she was so nice...hard to talk to though

Jelena Janković

I thought she'd be in top 100 by now. I surely didn't predict her losing to Ani, Gussoni, Korytseva and Linetskaya.

I think justine surprised me with the 2 GS and Kim surprised me cos she doesnt have any and is the world no.1. I dont think anybody lower ranked has really made a breakthroughgh this year, the top 10 still look pretty much the same, with the top5 winning nearly everything, and only losing a few times to low ranked players and to each other. A pretty dull year IMO.

Justine Henin.

Oct 5th, 2003, 12:23 AM
People surprised by Justine? I don't think anyone was expecting the run she had, but it would've been reasonable to expect a Slam win at least. More so than expecting the weirdly sudden and altogether welcome return to form of Maria Vento-Kabchi - even mid-way through the year, I assumed she was just going to part-time her career to a close. And now she's in the top 50! :D

I'm surprised at Myskina. Many thought she would just stay at the top ten for like 2 weeks, then go away, but she's still here. :)

Kim. I thought that she'd get her first majour title this year. US Open was a great opportunity for her. I was surprised she lost to JHH so easily.

I agree with Leonhart ... Myskina surprised me most. I was one of those who thought she had reached the top10 thanks to Seles injury or Dokic' and Hantuchova' slumps so that she wouldn't last long there! And there she is ... still climbing, and not ready to leave!:)

Juju's performances aren't a major surprise for me. I answer Shinobu Asagoe. I didn't expect anything from her before this season.

vento kabchi. the rest did have potential and it was expected, ok, maybe not justine winning the USO, but i knew she'd win a slam this year. i didnt think maria vento would do squat!but she did!

Oct 6th, 2003, 11:22 AM
Paola Suarez and
Anastasia Myskina

Daja Bedanova has shocked me - with her poor results  :crying2: :bigcry:

Oct 6th, 2003, 02:06 PM
Maria Vento. I thought her best was definitely behind her and she wouldnt reach top 100 again but shes doing really well this year.
Also Justine was a bit surprising, but everyone knew she was good. Only really surprising on hardcourt.

Elise Tamaela, the girl with the biggest jump in rankings - from 900 something to currently 229 :yeah: :bounce:
