Tough draw for sure. But if Anna is to be a top 25 player, she has to win matches like this. Simply shredding the field at events like Helsinki is not enough.

Tough draw for sure. But if Anna is to be a top 25 player, she has to win matches like this. Simply shredding the field at events like Helsinki is not enough.

And, to her credit, Anna did win today. 6-3, 6-3! Excellent win against a tough opponnent in what was probably the most competitive first round match of the tournament. :rocker:

Now let's see her put a string of these performances together!

The 2nd round match is against Svetlana Kuznetsova. Ranked 30-something but a good serve-volley player who might be a dangerous opponent.
If Anna gets through, her next opponent will be yet another Russian, Lena Bovina, who put out top seed Jenny Capriati.

The last five matches she has won ahve all been against russinas. She beat Bovina!!
Her second tier 1 semi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
