the 1 next to her name is means Linz is her 1st choice event.
she would have picked which one she wanted to play and dropped the other one (you have 1 week to do this)

Can anyone explain what is the A or F beside the player's name??

Also... I see that Tzipi Obziler is #16 in the "next to qualifying" list here while #3 in next to qualifying in Luxembourg. Giving that most of the players on the qualifying list for Luxembourg are either MDO or #2 priority (or both), will it be safe to assume she has a guarantied place in Luxembourg? Is there a chance she'll get into the qualies at Linz (which is her 1st choice)?

For A and F beside players' name..

F meaning the player is a full member of WTA
A meaning the player is amateur...mostly junior players or the players have not reached 18 yrs of age or the players have not played for full season....

Shouldn't the commitment list be updated? I thought I read somewhere that Justine said she wasn't defending her title here and Serena most likely withdrew.

Maybe Justine will change her mind since she just lost to Kim in the Filderstadt final..... To achieve her #1 ranking she needs to play here...
Anyway... its her choice!!! ;)

I thought I heard Msykina withdrew???

I didnt' hear that and considering how close she is to qualifying for the Y/E Championships, I doubt she would withdraw unless she is injured or she is going to play in Philadelphia.

She is on the Philly committment list! Even with that on her schedule, I still thought it odd she would withdraw so close to qualifying for the YEC. I thought I heard her announce it after she won Moscow. Can anyone confirm??

If Venus is going to play Philly (and I think she is), Myskina would have to do better than her or possibly beat her to get to LA.

I think Myskina is playing. She pulled out of Zurich, not Linz. She has a good chance to win here cuz so far, she's been the top seed (if Justine and Serena withdraw). I don't think she withdraws.

According to the tournament website, both Serena and Anastasia are still entered. However, I can't see Serena flying all the way to Austria, playing four matches and then flying all the way back to the States, especially since she's already clinched a spot in the Tour Championships; if anything, Venus would do that, because she and Anastasia are battling for the eighth spot in L.A. I expect to hear a withdrawal announcement from Serena by the end of the week. ;)

But Justine is also still in the list
Her website told weeks ago she won't play Linz and the last updat from the site is september 29
Could they force Justine to play? She is/was the headliner of the tournament so I can understand it but I don't think I like to see Justine playing if she doesn't want to:o

The situation about Justine is unclear. Apparently, WTA is trying to force her to play but Justine says she will decide after Zurich. It looks like if she is 100 % fit, she will probably play...

Jup Jemp (webmaster) also said it on her site

Marion Bartoli will play here instead of Lux.

Yeah, I hope Serena doesn't play until the YEC, she really doesn't need to... And besides, I have a feeling she is not ready... Venus on the other hand, needs to play, just because she needs her confidence back, it's been down for over a year! What she needs more than anything is to WANT to play, not feel like she needs to...
Oh well, whatever these girls chose, I'll still love em.
Go Venus, & Go Serena.
But I wouldn't be once bit suprised if Serena withdraws from here, as someone statedm she is not going to fly over just to win this tourny, and then fly back just to take the YEC... Just take the YEC Serena. :)
