What was the secret (but crappy ending) to Pay It Forward??

I can't be arsed to see the film, but I wanna know the ending...

The little kid gets stabbed by a pre-teen thug while he tries to save his friend from getting beaten up by them.

that's the end? So the kid dies?

Yeah!! very strange ending... I saw it last year in my grade 12 religion class... my teacher started crying!!! lol
