View Full Version : Anna Kournikova is a crappy player who can only make money with her looks!

Oh, is she now?

Apparently she is 14th in career PRIZE money among active players, and, at 20, younger than 12 of the 13 ladies ahead of her. 5 years younger than most of them.

Of course, I am probably preaching to the converted. The average person on this board probably knows more about women's tennis than the average "journalist" who spreads this myth.

Anna is a player with great looks..but she's certainly no crappy player... I wonder how a crappy player would get into the semi's in Tokio and take a set against Monica...how can a crappy player win the doubles in AO?

People who say that don't know anything about tennis...

NO ONE who follows tennis would call Anna Kournikova "a crappy player".

But I'd love to see a list that breaks down career earnings into Singles" "Doubles" and "Mixed" earnings. That would obviously give a clearer picture of the relative positions of current players in the Singles realm.

Lisa Raymond would disappear out of the singles list that's for sure...

auntie janie
Feb 2nd, 2002, 04:15 PM
That is true. :(

Navratilova, Zvereva, Tauziat, Kournikova and many others would lose a lot of ground too, not to mention Martina Hingis!

Yes, Anna isnt Crappy ... shes inconsistant!!

Its amazing shes so good at doubles though ... if she had an invisable partner helping her on court ... Anna would win all the Grand Slam singles and all the Tier 1's!!

Hey Thread-Starter! Anna LOVES Tennis....!Don't ever forget this, just look at the facts! In 2000 when she was fully healthy most of the year she played 26 (!!!) Tournaments in Singles, more than any other player and she would have played 27 Tournaments without this injury in Berlin (she would have played Rome)!Same as last year - have you ever read her comments in the Eurosport-Special about her injury??? "http://www.annaforever.de/interviews/various/various_eurosport-special-interview.htm) ????

8 months without Tennis was the hell on earth for her. She does a lot of offcourt things for sure which I personally don't like sometimes (ESCAPE-Video!!!!!!!!!!!!) but that is the way of the world.Anna is attractive and makes money with that. What is wrong with that??? But nowadays i think it has become normal for the media, for everyone to get jealous of everybody who earns more money than you yourself!

Hey,there is nothing with Anna doing Photoshootings etc. - she LOVES tennis. That's what I love about her!And that's why I am running my site!

That includes double doesn't it?

auntie janie
Feb 2nd, 2002, 04:59 PM
sk,

Yes, doubles earnings are included in the career earnings chart; that's why I said I'd love to see a similar chart showing SINGLES earnings, to see where everyone would end up.

Players like Monica and Jennifer would move up, while players who have earned most of their money in doubles, like Raymond and Kournikova, would drop quite a ways on such a list. But I'd love to see where players like Hingis, who has excelled in both, would end up.

saki
Feb 2nd, 2002, 05:01 PM
I expect Martina would move up. Prize money for double is much less than prize money for singles.

Most of Kournikova's money has been won in doubles Janie???
Well I didn't know you would class 1/3(or less) as most

Oh and while we are still on the case of been consistent yoshie707.. Do you actually know what it means???
Becuase Anna is certainly not inconsistent..

Someone who is inconsistent is someone who one weeks plays really well, then the next loses in the first Rd.. a pattern develops..

Now Since Anna has only lost 17 first matches (not actually first rd matches, may have had a bye in the 1st rd) in her career, with 6 of them coming recently, I wouldn't say she has been inconsistent over her career.. She consistently makes it too a seeded player, who is ranked above her where she unfortunately loses (well unfortunate for her fans) majority of the time..

So Yes she has not won a tournament, but she consistently makes it too a certain point in a tournament draw..

100% agree with you per4ever!

If Anna were more consistant, that's her problem, her mind!. She has the weapons!, I mean... she's cpmpletely confident when she's playing doubles, you can see it in her look, her attitude changes completely!. If she could bring a bit of that attitude to her single game, she'd be another player. Remember that match between Anna and Martina in Hamburg 2000, Anna played marvelous tennis in the first set, she almost erased Hingis of the court, she won that set... but then what? she couldn't mantain the level, and Hingis smart as she is figured out!. THe same was in the Chase 2000, Anna played Hingis in the semis, she played so consistant in the first set, but Hingis found a way to win, like she always does ;), Anna gave up in the second. Anna's mental attitude is almost 0!; She s a great player for 1 great first set! and then she just gives up when things don't go on her way. With tennis, you have to be patient, she is not patient at all. I like when she plays good tennis, I really do... 'cause I enjoy when her game is on.

You don't get to the top 10 being a crappy player... if you do, then what would that say for the vast majority of the tour who will never reach the top 10??
